Although COVID-19 remained severe in 2022, many countries began to ease quarantine measures to alleviate economic pressure. The Tourism Bureau and its overseas offices continued to promote Taiwan's tourism image online in coordination with pandemic prevention policies. The bureau also organized in-person events in visitor source markets to boost Taiwan's positive image among target groups.

On September 29, 2022, the CECC announced that Taiwan would reopen to inbound travel on October 13, 2022. By December 31, 2022, the number of international arrivals reached 895,962 (up 19.46%), beating expectations.

APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting

Minister of Transportation and Communications Wang Kwo-tsai led a delegation to attend the 11th APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting held in Bangkok, Thailand on August 19. The meeting focused on safe travel after the pandemic, improving tourism travel products, and sustainable tourism. Minister Wang shared Taiwan's tourism promotion strategies, including Pay tribute to the mountains and sea, and bicycle travel. Minister Wang held exchanges with representatives from Japan, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, and other countries on the resumption of cross-border travel and opportunities for bilateral tourism cooperation after the pandemic. He also invited representatives to Taiwan to experience the healing power of mountain travel.

With the relaxation of COVID-19 measures in various countries, the Tourism Bureau's overseas offices resumed participation in local travel fairs. The bureau also conducted themed promotional activities, both online and offline, involving key opinion leaders (KOLs) and cross-industry collaboration. In addition, it publicized "tourism circles" to enable international visitors to feel the warmth and hospitality of Taiwan.

Foreign Fam Tour Visits to Taiwan

A 23-member delegation from the Japan-Taiwan Tourism Promotion Association visited Taiwan for Taiwan's first familiarization ("Fam") tour since the outbreak of COVID-19. While strictly following COVID-19 prevention rules, the group toured in travel bubble mode from July 31 to August 2, 2022, with stops at Yehliu Geopark, Zhengbin Fishing Harbor, Kishida Gofuku, and 2023 Taiwan Lantern Festival venues-National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Jingtong, and Jiufen. At a Taiwan-Japan Business Symposium held on August 2, the two sides exchanged views on packaging Taiwan travel products post border reopening and responding to changing modes of travel after the pandemic.

Resume organizing groups to participate in overseas exhibitions

Organized a group of 35 industry insiders (from 22 companies) for promotional activities and industry trade meetings in Vietnam; and participated in the International Travel Expo-Ho Chi Minh City from September 8 to 10, 2022.

Organized a delegation for promotional activities in Japan. September 21, 2022: Held the Taiwan Tourism B2B Conference and Seminar; September 22 to 25, 2022: Participated in EXPO Tourism Japan, during which the Taiwan Pavilion received its third award and first "Executive Chairman's Award"; September 23 to 25, 2022: Held B2C promotional activities at Ikebukuro Station, a popular gathering place, to attract Japanese tourists in the post-pandemic era.
