A total of 692,784 visitors arrived in the Republic of China in May, 2026, decline 18,149 or 2.55% from the 710,933 in May of last year. The arrivals included 550,689 foreign visitors and 142,095 Overseas Chinese. Compared with May of last year, the number of foreign visitors decline by 1,792 or 0.32%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors decline by 16,357 or 10.32%.

1. Main markets by residence
   1. Northeast Asian Market (Japan、Korea):
      1. Northeast Asian Market accounted for 195,932 or 28.28% of the total, decline 9.25%, consisting of 195,758 foreign visitors, decline 9.23%, and 174 Overseas Chinese, decline 25.00%.
      2. Japan accounted for 117,617 or 16.98% of the total, decline 6.29%, consisting of 117,555 foreign visitors, decline 6.27%, and 62 Overseas Chinese, decline 31.11%.
      3. Korea, 78,315 or 11.30% of the total, decline 13.36%, consisting of 78,203 foreign visitors, decline 13.35%, and 112 Overseas Chinese, decline 21.13%.
   2. Greater China Market (Mainland China、Hong Kong and Macao):
      1. Greater China Market accounted for 151,874 or 21.92% of the total, decline 8.75%, consisting of 11,186 foreign visitors, up 22.77%, and 140,688 Overseas Chinese, decline 10.57%.
      2. Mainland China accounted for 58,655 or 8.47% of the total, decline 4.87%, consisting of 1,933 foreign visitors, up 34.05% and 56,722 Overseas Chinese, decline 5.81%.
      3. Hong Kong and Macao, 93,219 or 13.46% of the total, decline 11.03%, consisting of 9,253 foreign visitors, up 20.65%, and 83,966 Overseas Chinese, decline 13.53%.
   3. Western and Oceanian Markets (Europe、U.S.A.、Australia and New Zealand):
      1. Western and Oceanian Markets accounted for 99,237 or 14.32% of the total, up 5.12%, consisting of 98,862 foreign visitors, up 5.25%, and 375 Overseas Chinese, decline 21.88%.
      2. Europe, 29,685 or 4.28% of the total, decline 3.91%, consisting of 29,666 foreign visitors, decline 3.87%, and 19 Overseas Chinese, decline 40.63%.
      3. U.S.A., 60,252 or 8.70% of the total, up 12.63%, consisting of 59,910 foreign visitors, up 12.89%, and 342 Overseas Chinese, decline 19.72%.
      4. Australia and New Zealand, 9,300 or 1.34% of the total, decline 7.19%, consisting of 9,286 foreign visitors, decline 7.13%, and 14 Overseas Chinese, decline 36.36%.
   4. Main New Southbound Markets (Singapore、Malaysia、Vietnam、Thailand、Philippines、Indonesia、India):
      1. Main New Southbound Markets accounted for 225,356 or 32.53% of the total, up 5.92%, consisting of 225,082 foreign visitors, up 5.92%, and 274 Overseas Chinese, up 3.40%.
      2. Singapore, 36,084 or 5.21% of the total, up 7.76%, consisting of 36,073 foreign visitors, up 7.78%, and 11 Overseas Chinese, decline 26.67%.
      3. Malaysia, 32,022 or 4.62% of the total, decline 0.43%, consisting of 31,986 foreign visitors, decline 0.44%, and 36 Overseas Chinese, up 5.88%.
      4. Vietnam, 34,768 or 5.02% of the total, up 6.73%, consisting of 34,678 foreign visitors, up 6.73%, and 90 Overseas Chinese, up 7.14%.
      5. Thailand, 35,375 or 5.11% of the total, decline 3.22%, consisting of 35,342 foreign visitors, decline 3.24%, and 33 Overseas Chinese, up 26.92%.
      6. Philippines, 62,800 or 9.06% of the total, up 12.40%, consisting of 62,711 foreign visitors, up 12.42%, and 89 Overseas Chinese, decline 3.26%.
      7. Indonesia, 19,952 or 2.88% of the total, up 12.78%, consisting of 19,942 foreign visitors, up 12.81%, and 10 Overseas Chinese, decline 28.57%.
      8. India, 4,355 or 0.63% of the total, decline 1.72%, consisting of 4,350 foreign visitors, decline 1.83%, and 5 Overseas Chinese, up 0.00%.
      9. Other countries or regions accounted for 22,202 or 3.20% of the total, decline 6.85%, consisting of 21,637 foreign visitors, decline 8.83%, and 565 Overseas Chinese, up 453.92%.
2. Main markets by country of nationality
   1. There were 116,974 visitors from Japan accounting for 16.88% of the total. This was decline 8,154 or 6.52%, from the number in the same month last year.
   2. There were 79,098 visitors from Korea accounting for 11.42% of the total. This was decline 11,984, or 13.16%, from the number in the same month last year.
   3. There were 224,142 visitors from Southeast Asia accounting for 32.35% of the total. This was up 13,688 or 6.50%, from the number in the same month last year.
   4. There were 60,977 visitors from U.S.A. accounting for 8.80% of the total. This was up 6,578 or 12.09%, from the number in the same month last year.
   5. There were 10,049 visitors from Australia and New Zealand accounting for 1.45% of the total. This was decline 861, or 7.89%, from the number in the same month last year.
   6. There were 36,076 visitors from Europe accounting for 5.21% of the total. This was decline 628, or 1.71%, from the number in the same month last year. Visitors from U.K., Germany, and France accounted for 1.17% (8,118 people), 0.92% (6,374 people), and 0.76% (5,274 people) of the total which were decline 3.05%, up 8.29% ,and up 4.77% from the number in the same month last year.
   7. Other nationals accounted for 23,373 or 3.37%, decline 431 or 1.81%.
   8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 142,095 or 20.51% decline 16,357 or 10.32%. Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 83,966 or 59.09%, of the total Overseas Chinese visitors.
3.  Main markets by type of visitor
   1. Mode of transportation and port of entry: There were 692,784 visitors, 94.27% by air of whom 653,116. 533,113 visitors or 76.95% through the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 60,356 visitors or 8.71% through Kaohsiung Airport. Meanwhile, there were 5.73% by sea of whom 39,668. 2,693 visitors or 0.39% through Kaohsiung port, 10,853 visitors or 1.57% through Keelung, 669 visitors or 0.10% through Taichung.
   2. Gender: Male visitors accounted for 48.13% (333,457 people) while female were 51.87% (359,327 people).
   3. Age: There were 49,841 (7.19%) visitors under 19-year-old, 322,462 (46.55%) between 20 to 39-year-old, 220,556 (31.84%) between 40 to 59-year-old, and 99,925 (14.42%) over 60-year-old.
   4. Purpose of visit: The main purposes are Leisure, business, and relatives visiting with 484,296 (69.91%), 49,125 (7.09%), and 23,225 (3.35%) visitors.
   5. Length of stay: Most of visitors, 147,084 people or 21.17%, stayed 3 nights. Visitors staying 5-7 nights, 109,810 people or 15.80%, ranked second. Visitors stayed for 4 nights, 97,863 people or 14.08%, ranked third. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in May was 7.00 nights.
