Visitor Statistical Analysis for January 2026

A total of 723,375 visitors arrived in the Republic of China in January, 2026, increasing 72,297 or 11.10% from the 651,078 in January of last year. The arrivals included 603,786 foreign visitors and 119,589 Overseas Chinese. Compared with January of last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 105,750 or 21.23%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors decline by 33,453 or 21.86%.

  1. Main markets by residence
    1. Mainland China accounted for 46,690 or 6.45% of the total, decline 23.76%, consisting of 1,357 foreign visitors, up 19.88%and 45,333 Overseas Chinese, decline 24.58%.
    2. Hong Kong and Macao, 81,266 or 11.23% of the total, decline 15.26%, consisting of 8,015 foreign visitors, up 75.84%, and 73,251 Overseas Chinese, decline 19.81%.
    3. Japan accounted for 120,310 or 16.63% of the total, up 34.16%, consisting of 120,243 foreign visitors, up 34.24%, and 67 Overseas Chinese, decline 33.00%.
    4. Korea, 130,755 or 18.08% of the total, up 11.72%, consisting of 130,644 foreign visitors, up 11.80%, and 111 Overseas Chinese, decline 37.99%.
    5. Southeast Asia, 215,076 or 29.73% of the total, up 34.93%, consisting of 214,783 foreign visitors, up 35.06%, and 293 Overseas Chinese, decline 21.24%.
    6. U.S.A., 56,056 or 7.75% of the total, up 1.34%, consisting of 55,724 foreign visitors, up 1.64%, and 332 Overseas Chinese, decline 32.24%.
    7. Australia and New Zealand, 16,571 or 2.29% of the total, up 8.76%, consisting of 16,545 foreign visitors, up 9.21%, and 26 Overseas Chinese, decline 70.11%.
    8. Europe, 34,808 or 4.81% of the total, up 18.68%, consisting of 34,783 foreign visitors, up 18.92%, and 25 Overseas Chinese, decline 69.51%.
    9. Other countries or regions accounted for 21,843 or 3.02% of the total, decline 21.84%, consisting of 21,692 foreign visitors, decline 21.60%, and 151 Overseas Chinese, decline 45.68%.
  2. Main markets by country of nationality
    1. There were 120,215 visitors from Japan accounting for 16.62% of the total. This was up 30,363 or 33.79%, from the number in the same month last year.
    2. There were 131,629 visitors from Korea accounting for 18.20% of the total. This was up 13,543, or 11.47%, from the number in the same month last year.
    3. There were 216,340 visitors from Southeast Asia accounting for 29.91% of the total. This was up 54,154 or 33.39%, from the number in the same month last year.
    4. There were 56,762 visitors from U.S.A. accounting for 7.85% of the total. This was decline 9 or 0.02%, from the number in the same month last year.
    5. There were 16,656 visitors from Australia and New Zealand accounting for 2.30% of the total. This was up 533, or 3.31%, from the number in the same month last year.
    6. There were 39,415 visitors from Europe accounting for 5.45% of the total. This was up 4,938, or 14.32%, from the number in the same month last year. Visitors from U.K., Germany, and France accounted for 1.13% (8,159 people), 1.04% (7,546 people), and 0.72% (5,231 people) of the total which were decline 3.90%, up 10.81% ,and up 16.12% from the number in the same month last year.
    7. Other nationals accounted for 22,769 or 3.15%, up 2,228 or 10.85%.
    8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 119,589 or 16.53% decline 33,453 or 21.86%. Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 73,251 or 61.25%, of the total Overseas Chinese visitors.
  3.  Main markets by type of visitor
    1. Mode of transportation and port of entry: There were 723,375 visitors, 93.21% by air of whom 674,291. 548,570 visitors or 75.83% through the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 62,927 visitors or 8.70% through Kaohsiung Airport. Meanwhile, there were 6.79% by sea of whom 49,084. 1,667 visitors or 0.23% through Kaohsiung port, 28,164 visitors or 3.89% through Keelung, 419 visitors or 0.06% through Taichung.
    2. Gender: Male visitors accounted for 47.63% (344,542 people) while female were 52.37% (378,833 people).
    3. Age: There were 60,746 (8.40%) visitors under 19-year-old, 309,234 (42.75%) between 20 to 39-year-old, 236,546 (32.70%) between 40 to 59-year-old, and 116,849 (16.15%) over 60-year-old.
    4. Purpose of visit: The main purposes are Leisure, business, and relatives visiting with 509,121 (70.38%), 48,042 (6.64%), and 22,464 (3.11%) visitors.
    5. Length of stay: Most of visitors, 182,963 people or 22.25%, stayed 3 nights. Visitors staying 5-7 nights, 132,604 people or 16.12%, ranked second. Visitors stayed for over 90 nights, 116,093 people or 14.12%, ranked third. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in January was 6.67 nights.
