Visitor Statistical Analysis for January 2025

A total of 651,078 visitors arrived in the Republic of China in January, 2025, increasing 61,117 or 10.36% from the 589,961 in January of last year. The arrivals included 498,036 foreign visitors and 153,042 Overseas Chinese. Compared with January of last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 20,828 or 4.36%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors increased by 40,289 or 35.73%.

  1. Main markets by residence
    1. Mainland China accounted for 61,241 or 9.41% of the total, up 99.25%, consisting of 1,132 foreign visitors, up 31.02%and 60,109 Overseas Chinese, up 101.22%.
    2. Hong Kong and Macao, 95,903 or 14.73% of the total, up 11.10%, consisting of 4,558 foreign visitors, decline 7.47%, and 91,345 Overseas Chinese, up 12.22%.
    3. Japan accounted for 89,676 or 13.77% of the total, decline 6.29%, consisting of 89,576 foreign visitors, decline 6.29%, and 100 Overseas Chinese, decline 1.96%.
    4. Korea, 117,038 or 17.98% of the total, up 3.40%, consisting of 116,859 foreign visitors, up 3.38%, and 179 Overseas Chinese, up 14.01%.
    5. Southeast Asia, 159,394 or 24.48% of the total, decline 4.29%, consisting of 159,022 foreign visitors, decline 4.31%, and 372 Overseas Chinese, up 2.48%.
    6. U.S.A., 55,314 or 8.50% of the total, up 30.11%, consisting of 54,824 foreign visitors, up 30.37%, and 490 Overseas Chinese, up 6.52%.
    7. Australia and New Zealand, 15,237 or 2.34% of the total, up 12.86%, consisting of 15,150 foreign visitors, up 12.83%, and 87 Overseas Chinese, up 17.57%.
    8. Europe, 29,330 or 4.50% of the total, up 23.09%, consisting of 29,248 foreign visitors, up 23.08%, and 82 Overseas Chinese, up 24.24%.
    9. Other countries or regions accounted for 27,945 or 4.29% of the total, up 58.51%, consisting of 27,667 foreign visitors, up 59.32%, and 278 Overseas Chinese, up 5.30%.
  2. Main markets by country of nationality
    1. There were 89,852 visitors from Japan accounting for 13.80% of the total. This was decline 5,598 or 5.86%, from the number in the same month last year.
    2. There were 118,086 visitors from Korea accounting for 18.14% of the total. This was up 4,596, or 4.05%, from the number in the same month last year.
    3. There were 162,186 visitors from Southeast Asia accounting for 24.19% of the total. This was decline 3,903 or 2.35%, from the number in the same month last year.
    4. There were 56,771 visitors from U.S.A accounting for 8.72% of the total. This was up 13,784 or 32.07%, from the number in the same month last year.
    5. There were 16,123 visitors from Australia and New Zealand accounting for 2.48% of the total. This was up 2,129, or 15.21%, from the number in the same month last year.
    6. There were 34,477 visitors from Europe accounting for 5.30% of the total. This was up 6,835, or 24.73%, from the number in the same month last year. Visitors from U.K., Germany, and France accounted for 1.30% (8,490 people), 1.05% (6,810 people), and 0.69% (4,505 people) of the total which were up 25.83%, up 55.87% ,and up 11.07% from the number in the same month last year.
    7. Other nationals accounted for 20,541 or 3.15%, up 2,985 or 17.00%.
    8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 153,042 or 23.51% up 40,289 or 35.73%. Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 91,345 or 59.68%, of the total Overseas Chinese visitors.
  3.  Main markets by type of visitor
    1. Mode of transportation and port of entry: There were 651,078 visitors, 92.26% by air of whom 600,669. 494,927 visitors or 76.02% through the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 52,627 visitors or 8.08% through Kaohsiung Airport. Meanwhile, there were 7.74% by sea of whom 50,409. 6,771 visitors or 1.04% through Kaohsiung port, 20,159 visitors or 3.10% through Keelung, 334 visitors or 0.05% through Taichung.
    2. Gender: Male visitors accounted for 47.02% (306,151 people) while female were 52.98% (344,927 people).
    3. Age: There were 66,460 (10.21%) visitors under 19-year-old, 269,402 (41.38%) between 20 to 39-year-old, 212,507 (32.64%) between 40 to 59-year-old, and 102,709 (15.78%) over 60-year-old.
    4. Purpose of visit: The main purposes are Leisure, business, and relatives visiting with 434,700 (66.77%), 34,321 (5.27%), and 43,353 (6.66%) visitors.
    5. Length of stay: Most of visitors, 149,419 people or 19.22%, stayed 3 nights. Visitors staying over 90 nights, 148,217 people or 19.07%, ranked second. Visitors stayed for 5-7 nights, 118,870 people or 15.29%, ranked third. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in January was 7.45 nights.
