A total of 616,922 visitors arrived in the Republic of China in August, 2024, up 26,464 or 4.48% from the 590,458 in August of last year. The arrivals included 436,809 foreign visitors and 180,113 Overseas Chinese. Compared with August of last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 28,235 or6.91%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors decline by 1,771 or 0.97%.

1. Main markets by residence
   1. Mainland China accounted for 37,092 or 6.01% of the total, up 44.89%, consisting of 857 foreign visitors, up 4.13% and 36,235 Overseas Chinese, up 46.24%.
   2. Hong Kong and Macao, 147,276 or 23.87% of the total, decline 8.42%, consisting of 4,936 foreign visitors, decline 11.49%, and 142,340 Overseas Chinese, decline 8.31%.
   3. Japan accounted for 111,759 or 18.12% of the total, up 14.31%, consisting of 111,611 foreign visitors, up 14.37%, and 148 Overseas Chinese, decline 21.28%.
   4. Korea, 61,078 or 9.90% of the total, up 19.81%, consisting of 60,897 foreign visitors, up 19.95%, and 181 Overseas Chinese, decline 13.81%.
   5. Southeast Asia, 160,187 or 25.97% of the total, decline 2.85%, consisting of 159,780 foreign visitors, decline 2.78%, and 407 Overseas Chinese, decline 23.78%.
   6. U.S.A., 43,803 or 7.10% of the total, up 10.69%, consisting of 43,321 foreign visitors, up 10.91%, and 482 Overseas Chinese, decline 6.23%.
   7. Australia and New Zealand, 5,661 or 0.92% of the total, decline 4.94%, consisting of 5,647 foreign visitors, decline 4.68%, and 14 Overseas Chinese, decline 54.84%.
   8. Europe, 25,798 or 4.18% of the total, decline 0.51%, consisting of 25,696 foreign visitors, decline 0.38%, and 102 Overseas Chinese, decline 25.00%.
   9. Other countries or regions accounted for 24,268 or 3.93% of the total, up 28.12%, consisting of 24,064 foreign visitors, up 28.74%, and 204 Overseas Chinese, decline 18.40%.
2. Main markets by country of nationality
   1. There were 111,620 visitors from Japan accounting for 18.09% of the total. This was up 14,108 or 14.47%, from the number in the same month last year.
   2. There were 61,700 visitors from Korea accounting for 10.00% of the total. This was up 10,613, or 20.77%, from the number in the same month last year.
   3. There were 160,810 visitors from Southeast Asia accounting for 26.07% of the total. This was decline 3,630 or 2.21%, from the number in the same month last year.
   4. There were 44,694 visitors from U.S.A accounting for 7.24% of the total. This was up 4,826 or 12.10%, from the number in the same month last year.
   5. There were 6,901 visitors from Australia and New Zealand accounting for 1.12% of the total. This was decline 119 or 1.70%, from the number in the same month last year.
   6. There were 30,954 visitors from Europe accounting for 5.02% of the total. This was up 1,246 or 4.19%, from the number in the same month last year. Visitors from U.K., Germany, and France accounted for 1.19% (7,355 people), 0.77% (4,748 people), and 0.74% (4,590 people) of the total which were decline 2.48%, up 3.40%, and up 4.60% from the number in the same month last year.
   7. Other nationals accounted for 20,130 or 3.26%, up 1,191 or 6.29%.
   8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 180,113 or 29.20%, decline 1,771 or 0.79%. Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 142,340 or 79.02%, of the total Overseas Chinese visitors.
3.  Main markets by type of visitor
   1. Mode of transportation and port of entry: There were 616,922 visitors, 98.49% by air of whom 607,629. 494,539 visitors or 80.16% through the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 54,273 visitors or 8.80% through Kaohsiung Airport. Meanwhile, there were 1.51% by sea of whom 9,293. 1,554 visitors or 0.25% through Kaohsiung port, 2,444 visitors or 0.40% through Keelung, 688 visitors or 0.11% through Taichung.
   2. Gender: Male visitors accounted for 48.25% (297,691 people) while female were 51.75% (319,231 people).
   3. Age: There were 86,341 (14.00%) visitors under 19-year-old, 279,554 (45.31%) between 20 to 39-year-old, 194,902 (31.59%) between 40 to 59-year-old, and 56,125 (9.10%) over 60-year-old.
   4. Purpose of visit: The main purposes are Leisure, business, and relatives visiting with 411,374 (66.68%), 36,631 (5.94%), and 27,255 (4.42%) visitors.
   5. Length of stay: Most of visitors, 131,677 people or 21.69%, stayed 3 nights. Visitors staying 5-7 nights, 104,643 people or 17.23%, ranked second. Visitors stayed for 4 nights, 98,971 people or 16.30%, ranked third. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in August was 7.66 nights.
