A total of 581,748 visitors arrived in the Republic of China in May, 2024, increasing65,352 or 12.66% from the 516,396 in May of last year. The arrivals included 461,004 foreign visitors and 120,744 Overseas Chinese. Compared with May of last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 60,456 or 15.09%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors increased by 4,896 or 4.23%.

1. Main markets by residence
   1. Mainland China accounted for 30,208 or 5.19% of the total, up 122.10%, consisting of 1,025 foreign visitors, up 94.13%and 29,183 Overseas Chinese, up 123.23%.
   2. Hong Kong and Macao, 94,104 or 16.18% of the total, decline 11.41%, consisting of 3,901 foreign visitors, decline 22.71%, and 90,203 Overseas Chinese, decline 10.85%.
   3. Japan accounted for 98,184 or 16.88% of the total, up 26.75%, consisting of 98,083 foreign visitors, up 26.75%, and 101 Overseas Chinese, decline 23.17%.
   4. Korea, 71,240 or 12.25% of the total, up 22.63%, consisting of 71,066 foreign visitors, up 22.66%, and 174 Overseas Chinese, decline 11.54%.
   5. Southeast Asia, 188,380 or 32.38% of the total, up 7.09%, consisting of 188,000 foreign visitors, up 7.13%, and 380 Overseas Chinese, decline 10.38%.
   6. U.S.A., 46,849 or 8.05% of the total, up 15.38%, consisting of 46,363 foreign visitors, up 16.02%, and 486 Overseas Chinese, decline 24.30%.
   7. Australia and New Zealand, 7,451 or1.28% of the total, up18.36%, consisting of 7,424 foreign visitors, up 18.86%, and 27 Overseas Chinese, decline 44.90%.
   8. Europe, 23,999 or 4.13% of the total, up 9.12%, consisting of 23,957 foreign visitors, up 9.23%, and 42 Overseas Chinese, decline 30.00%.
   9. Other countries or regions accounted for 21,333 or 3.67% of the total, up 31.64%, consisting of 21,185 foreign visitors, up 32.21%, and 148 Overseas Chinese, decline 18.68%.
2. Main markets by country of nationality
   1. There were 98,321 visitors from Japan accounting for 16.90% of the total. This was up 21,083 or 27.30%, from the number in the same month last year.
   2. There were 71,480 visitors from Korea accounting for 12.29% of the total. This was up 13,382, or 23.03%, from the number in the same month last year.
   3. There were 187,744 visitors from Southeast Asia accounting for 32.27% of the total. This was up 12,684 or 7.25%, from the number in the same month last year.
   4. There were 47,200 visitors from U.S.A accounting for 8.11% of the total. This was up 6,431 or 15.77%, from the number in the same month last year.
   5. There were 8,202 visitors from Australia and New Zealand accounting for 1.41% of the total. This was up 1,076, or 15.10%, from the number in the same month last year.
   6. There were 28,959 visitors from Europe accounting for 4.98% of the total. This was up 3,466, or 13.60%, from the number in the same month last year. Visitors from U.K., Germany, and France accounted for 1.19% (6,894 people), 0.83% (4,841 people), and 0.76% (4,439 people) of the total which were up 4.42%, up 15.02%, and up 24.45% from the number in the same month last year.
   7. Other nationals accounted for 19,098 or 3.28%, up 2,334 or 13.92%.
   8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 120,744 or 20.76%, up 4,896 or 4.23%. Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 90,203 or 74.71%, of the total Overseas Chinese visitors.
3.  Main markets by type of visitor
   1. Mode of transportation and port of entry: There were 581,748 visitors, 97.36% by air of whom 566,418. 469,460 visitors or 80.70% through the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 47,086 visitors or 8.09% through Kaohsiung Airport. Meanwhile, there were 2.64% by sea of whom 15,330. 1,565 visitors or 0.27% through Kaohsiung port, 9,698 visitors or 1.67% through Keelung, 648 visitors or 0.11% through Taichung.
   2. Gender: Male visitors accounted for 48.29% (280,928 people) while female were 51.71% (300,820 people).
   3. Age: There were 40,017 (6.88%) visitors under 19-year-old, 266,932 (45.88%) between 20 to 39-year-old, 185,737 (31.93%) between 40 to 59-year-old, and 89,062 (15.31%) over 60-year-old.
   4. Purpose of visit: The main purposes are Leisure, business, and relatives visiting with 395,766 (68.03%), 41,322 (7.10%), and 25,506 (4.38%) visitors.
   5. Length of stay: Most of visitors, 124,468 people or 21.74%, stayed 3 nights. Visitors staying 5-7 nights, 102,978 people or 17.98%, ranked second. Visitors stayed for 4 nights, 93,630 people or 16.35%, ranked third. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in May was 7.16 nights.
