A total of 589,961 visitors arrived in the Republic of China in January, 2024, increasing 335,602 or 131.94% from the 254,359 in January of last year. The arrivals included 477,208 foreign visitors and 112,753 Overseas Chinese. Compared with January of last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 246,369 or 106.73%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors increased by 89,233 or 379.39%.

1. Main markets by residence
   1. Mainland China accounted for 30,736 or 5.21% of the total, up 219.07%, consisting of 864 foreign visitors, up 190.91% and 29,872 Overseas Chinese, up 219.97%.
   2. Hong Kong and Macao, 86,321or 14.63% of the total, up 487.38%, consisting of 4,926 foreign visitors, up 95.40%, and 81,395 Overseas Chinese, up 568.54%.
   3. Japan accounted for 95,693 or 16.22% of the total, up 246.64%, consisting of 95,591 foreign visitors, up 247.95%, and 102 Overseas Chinese, down 23.31%.
   4. Korea, 113,192 or 19.19% of the total, up 209.81%, consisting of 113,035 foreign visitors, up 211.40%, and 157 Overseas Chinese, down 33.76%.
   5. Southeast Asia, 166,546 or 28.23% of the total, up 60.05%, consisting of 166,183 foreign visitors, up 60.45%, and 363 Overseas Chinese, down 24.84%.
   6. U.S.A., 42,513 or 7.21% of the total, up 59.11%, consisting of 42,053 foreign visitors, up 60.87%, and 460 Overseas Chinese, down 20.55%.
   7. Australia and New Zealand, 13,501 or 2.29% of the total, up 82.35%, consisting of 13,427 foreign visitors, up 84.61%, and 74 Overseas Chinese, down 43.51%.
   8. Europe, 23,829 or 4.04% of the total, up 39.67%, consisting of 23,763 foreign visitors, up 40.22%, and 66 Overseas Chinese, down 42.11%.
   9. Other countries or regions accounted for 17,630 or 2.99% of the total, up 65.62%, consisting of 17,366 foreign visitors, up 68.39%, and 264 Overseas Chinese, down 20.48%.
2. Main markets by country of nationality
   1. There were 95,450 visitors from Japan accounting for 16.18% of the total. This was up 67,968, or 247.32%, from the number in the same month last year.
   2. There were 113,490 visitors from Korea accounting for 19.24% of the total. This was up 77,116, or 212.01%, from the number in the same month last year.
   3. There were 166,089 visitors from Southeast Asia accounting for 28.15% of the total. This was up 62,574, or 60.45%, from the number in the same month last year.
   4. There were 42,987 visitors from U.S.A accounting for 7.29% of the total. This was up 16,347, or 61.36%, from the number in the same month last year.
   5. There were 13,994 visitors from Australia and New Zealand accounting for 2.37% of the total. This was up 6,432, or 85.06%, from the number in the same month last year.
   6. There were 27,642 visitors from Europe accounting for 4.69% of the total. This was up 9,118, or 49.22%, from the number in the same month last year. Visitors from U.K., Germany, and France accounted for 1.14% (6,747 people), 0.74% (4,369 people), and 0.69% (4,056 people) of the total which were up 53.66%, 37.26%, and 43.83% from the number in the same month last year.
   7. Other nationals accounted for 17,556, or 2.98%, up 6,814 or 63.43%.
   8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 112,753 or 19.11%, up 89,233 or 379.39%. Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 81,395, or 72.19%, of the total Overseas Chinese visitors.
3.  Main markets by type of visitor
   1. Mode of transportation and port of entry: There were 589,961 visitors, 97.46% who entered by air, of 574,976. 482,803 visitors or 81.84% entered through Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, and 41,398 visitors or 7.02% who entered through Kaohsiung Airport. Meanwhile, there were 2.54% who arrived by sea, or 14,985. 1,398 visitors, or 0.24%, entered through Kaohsiung port, 10,172 visitors or 1.72% through Keelung, and 266 visitors or 0.05% through Taichung.
   2. Gender: Male visitors accounted for 47.40% (279,626 people) while female made up 52.60% (310,335 people) of all visitors.
   3. Age: There were 46,226 (7.84%) visitors under 19 years of age, 254,637 (43.16%) between 20 to 39, 194,989 (33.05%) between 40 to 59, and 94,109 (15.95%) over 60.
   4. Purpose of visit: The main purposes were leisure, business, and visiting relatives with 405,334 (68.71%), 40,192 (6.81%), and 27,887 (4.73%) visitors.
   5. Length of stay: Most of visitors, 162,882 people or 22.98%, stayed 3 nights. Visitors staying 5-7 nights, 124,003 people or 17.50%, ranked second. Visitors staying for 4 nights, 101,179 people or 14.27%, ranked third. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in January was 6.88 nights.
