A total of 814,765 visitors arrived in the Republic of China in December, 2023, increasing 512,665 or 169.70% from the 302,100 in December of last year. The arrivals included 640,135foreign visitors and 174,630 Overseas Chinese. Compared with December of last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 355,741 or 125.09%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors increased by 156,924 or 886.28%.

1. Main markets by residence
   1. Mainland China accounted for 32,459 or 3.98% of the total, up 497.00%, consisting of 911 foreign visitors, up 611.72% and 31,548 Overseas Chinese, up 494.24%.
   2. Hong Kong and Macao, 148,671 or 18.25% of the total, up 1075.92%, consisting of 8,133 foreign visitors, up 166.92%, and 140,538 Overseas Chinese, up 1364.55%.
   3. Japan accounted for 122,902 or 15.08% of the total, up 259.43%, consisting of 122,743 foreign visitors, up 261.19%, and 159 Overseas Chinese, decline 24.64%.
   4. Korea, 104,827 or 12.87% of the total, up 289.66%, consisting of 104,640 foreign visitors, up 290.94%, and 187 Overseas Chinese, up 37.50%.
   5. Southeast Asia, 272,962 or 33.50% of the total, up 75.65%, consisting of 272,362 foreign visitors, up 75.81%, and 600 Overseas Chinese, up 24.22%.
   6. U.S.A., 66,963 or 8.22% of the total, up 89.63%, consisting of 65,996 foreign visitors, up 93.64%, and 967 Overseas Chinese, decline 21.45%.
   7. Australia and New Zealand, 17,204 or 2.11% of the total, up 141.77%, consisting of 17,067 foreign visitors, up 146.38%, and 137 Overseas Chinese, decline 27.51%.
   8. Europe, 27,782 or 3.41% of the total, up 88.56%, consisting of 27,672 foreign visitors, up 89.98%, and 110 Overseas Chinese, decline 34.52%.
   9. Other countries or regions accounted for 20,995 or 2.58% of the total, up 102.73%, consisting of 20,611 foreign visitors, up 106.67%, and 384 Overseas Chinese, up 0.26%.
2. Main markets by country of nationality
   1. There were 122,240 visitors from Japan accounting for 15.00% of the total. This was up 88,355 or 260.75%, from the number in the same month last year.
   2. There were 105,216 visitors from Korea accounting for 12.91% of the total. This was up 78,358 or 291.75%, from the number in the same month last year.
   3. There were 272,321 visitors from Southeast Asia accounting for 33.42% of the total. This was up 117,978 or 76.44%, from the number in the same month last year.
   4. There were 67,984 visitors from U.S.A accounting for 8.34% of the total. This was up 33,107 or 94.93%, from the number in the same month last year.
   5. There were 18,288 visitors from Australia and New Zealand accounting for 2.24% of the total. This was up 10,887 or 147.10%, from the number in the same month last year.
   6. There were 33,642 visitors from Europe accounting for 4.13% of the total. This was up 17,243, or 105.15% from the number in the same month last year. Visitors from U.K., Germany, and France accounted for 0.99% (8,063 people), 0.80% (6,520 people), and 0.57% (4,659 people) of the total which were up 116.86%, up 105.03%, and up 84.51% from the number in the same month last year.
   7. Other nationals accounted for 20,444 or 2.51%, up 9,813 or 92.31%.
   8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 174,630 or 21.43%, up 156,924 or 886.28%. Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 140,538 or 80.48% of the total Overseas Chinese visitors.
3.  Main markets by type of visitor
   1. Mode of transportation and port of entry: There were 814,765 visitors, 98.20% by air of whom 800,077. 677,497 visitors or 83.15% through the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 59,365 visitors or 7.29% through Kaohsiung Airport. Meanwhile, there were 1.80% by sea of whom 14,688. 3,309 visitors or 0.41% through Kaohsiung port, 7,341 visitors or 0.90% through Keelung, 401 visitors or 0.05% through Taichung.
   2. Gender: Male visitors accounted for 47.37% (385,949 people) while female were 52.63% (428,816 people).
   3. Age: There were 114,472 (14.05%) visitors under 19-year-old, 329,933 (40.49%) between 20 to 39-year-old, 258,161 (31.69%) between 40 to 59-year-old, and 112,199 (13.77%) over 60-year-old.
   4. Purpose of visit: The main purposes are leisure, business, and relatives visiting with 625,065 (76.72%), 33,420 (4.10%), and 43,183 (5.30%) visitors.
   5. Length of stay: Most of visitors, 164,882 people or 21.59%, stayed 3 nights. Visitors stayed 5-7 nights, 159,144 people or 20.84%, ranked second. Visitors stayed for 4 nights, 116,034 people or 15.19%, ranked third. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in December was 6.90 nights.
