A total of 538,658 visitors arrived in the Republic of China in September, 2023, increasing 470,340 or 688.46% from the 68,318 in September of last year. The arrivals included 420,662 foreign visitors and 117,996 Overseas Chinese. Compared with September of last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 359,259 or 585.08%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors increased by 111,081 or 1606.38%.

1. Main markets by residence
   1. Mainland China accounted for 22,952 or 4.26% of the total, up 771.71%, consisting of 895 foreign visitors, up 14816.67% and 22,057 Overseas Chinese, up 739.63%.
   2. Hong Kong and Macao, 99,134 or 18.40% of the total, up 2813.14%, consisting of 4,799 foreign visitors, up 10806.82%, and 94,335 Overseas Chinese, up 2708.43%.
   3. Japan accounted for 94,697 or 17.58% of the total, up 1584.10%, consisting of 94,566 foreign visitors, up 1599.30%, and 131 Overseas Chinese, up 125.86%.
   4. Korea, 67,475 or 12.53% of the total, up 4692.26%, consisting of 67,232 foreign visitors, up 4887.54%, and 243 Overseas Chinese, up 305.00%.
   5. Southeast Asia, 167,077 or 31.02% of the total, up 318.04%, consisting of 166,645 foreign visitors, up 319.34%, and 432 Overseas Chinese, up 90.31%.
   6. U.S.A., 36,516 or 6.78% of the total, up 705.91%, consisting of 36,110 foreign visitors, up 758.33%, and 406 Overseas Chinese, up 25.31%.
   7. Australia and New Zealand, 9,595 or 1.78% of the total, up 1236.35%, consisting of 9,534 foreign visitors, up 1387.36%, and 61 Overseas Chinese, decline 20.78%.
   8. Europe, 23,540 or 4.37% of the total, up 288.13%, consisting of 23,457 foreign visitors, up 291.21%, and 83 Overseas Chinese, up 20.29%.
   9. Other countries or regions accounted for 17,672 or 3.28% of the total, up 345.14%, consisting of 17,424 foreign visitors, up 351.87%, and 248 Overseas Chinese, up 117.54%.
2. Main markets by country of nationality
   1. There were 94,609 visitors from Japan accounting for 17.56% of the total. This was up 89,049 or 1601.60%, from the number in the same month last year.
   2. There were 67,449 visitors from Korea accounting for 12.52% of the total. This was up 66,092 or 4870.45%, from the number in the same month last year.
   3. There were 166,635 visitors from Southeast Asia accounting for 30.94% of the total. This was up 126,898 or 319.34%, from the number in the same month last year.
   4. There were 36,808 visitors from U.S.A accounting for 6.83% of the total. This was up 32,582 or 770.99%, from the number in the same month last year.
   5. There were 10,310 visitors from Australia and New Zealand accounting for 1.91% of the total. This was up 9,664 or 1495.98%, from the number in the same month last year.
   6. There were 27,519 visitors from Europe accounting for 5.11% of the total. This was up 21,488, or 356.29%, from the number in the same month last year. Visitors from U.K., Germany, and France accounted for 1.23% (6,608 people), 0.93% (5,019 people), and 0.68% (3,645 people) of the total which were up 463.82%, up 431.11%, and up 345.60% from the number in the same month last year.
   7. Other nationals accounted for 17,332 or 3.22%, up 13,486 or 350.65%.
   8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 117,996 or 21.91%, up 111,081 or 1606.38%. Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 94,335 or 79.95% of the total Overseas Chinese visitors.
3.  Main markets by type of visitor
   1. Mode of transportation and port of entry: There were 538,658 visitors, 97.60% by air of whom 525,752. 435,852 visitors or 80.91% through the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 39,260 visitors or 7.29% through Kaohsiung Airport. Meanwhile, there were 2.40% by sea of whom 12,906. 6,569 visitors or 1.22% through Kaohsiung port, 3,235 visitors or 0.60% through Keelung, 448 visitors or 0.08% through Taichung.
   2. Gender: Male visitors accounted for 47.87% (257,869 people) while female were 52.13% (280,789 people).
   3. Age: There were 32,777 (6.08%) visitors under 19-year-old, 258,351 (47.96%) between 20 to 39-year-old, 168,850 (31.35%) between 40 to 59-year-old, and 78,680 (14.61%) over 60-year-old.
   4. Purpose of visit: The main purposes are leisure, business, and relatives visiting with 355,567 (66.01%), 38,769 (7.20%), and 25,136 (4.67%) visitors.
   5. Length of stay: Most of visitors, 108,024 people or 22.60%, stayed 3 nights. Visitors staying 5-7 nights, 83,136 people or 17.40%, ranked second. Visitors stayed for 4 nights, 72,135 people or 15.09%, ranked third. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in September was 7.07 nights.
