A total of 590,458 visitors arrived in the Republic of China in August, 2023, increasing 521,159 or 752.04% from the 69,299 in August of last year. The arrivals included 408,574 foreign visitors and 181,884 Overseas Chinese. Compared with August of last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 345,884 or 551.74%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors increased by 175,275 or 2652.07%.

1. Main markets by residence
   1. Mainland China accounted for 25,600 or 4.34% of the total, up 1010.63%, consisting of 823 foreign visitors, up 27333.33% and 24,777 Overseas Chinese, up 976.32%.
   2. Hong Kong and Macao, 160,821 or 27.24% of the total, up 4894.44%, consisting of 5,577 foreign visitors, up 11518.75%, and 155,244 Overseas Chinese, up 4794.20%.
   3. Japan accounted for 97,772 or 16.56% of the total, up 1635.08%, consisting of 97,584 foreign visitors, up 1655.11%, and 188 Overseas Chinese, up 150.67%.
   4. Korea, 50,980 or 8.63% of the total, up 3090.24%, consisting of 50,770 foreign visitors, up 3188.21%, and 210 Overseas Chinese, up 288.89%.
   5. Southeast Asia, 164,887 or 27.93% of the total, up 327.56%, consisting of 164,353 foreign visitors, up 328.86%, and 534 Overseas Chinese, up 120.66%.
   6. U.S.A., 39,572 or 6.70% of the total, up 773.94%, consisting of 39,058 foreign visitors, up 864.16%, and 514 Overseas Chinese, up 7.76%.
   7. Australia and New Zealand, 5,955or 1.01% of the total, up 1288.11%, consisting of 5,924 foreign visitors, up 1479.73%, and 31 Overseas Chinese, decline -42.59%.
   8. Europe, 25,929 or 4.39% of the total, up 309.17%, consisting of 25,793 foreign visitors, up 314.01%, and 136 Overseas Chinese, up 27.10%.
   9. Other countries or regions accounted for 18,942 or 3.21% of the total, up 183.48%, consisting of 18,692 foreign visitors, up 185.11%, and 250 Overseas Chinese, up 98.41%.
2. Main markets by country of nationality
   1. There were 97,512 visitors from Japan accounting for 16.51% of the total. This was up 91,759 or 1594.98%, from the number in the same month last year.
   2. There were 51,087 visitors from Korea accounting for 8.65% of the total. This was up 49,466 or 3051.57%, from the number in the same month last year.
   3. There were 164,440 visitors from Southeast Asia accounting for 27.85% of the total. This was up 123,641 or 303.05%, from the number in the same month last year.
   4. There were 39,868 visitors from U.S.A accounting for 6.75% of the total. This was up 35,691 or 854.46%, from the number in the same month last year.
   5. There were 7,020 visitors from Australia and New Zealand accounting for 1.19% of the total. This was up 6,629 or 1695.40%, from the number in the same month last year.
   6. There were 29,708 visitors from Europe accounting for 5.03% of the total. This was up 23,260 or 360.73%, from the number in the same month last year. Visitors from U.K., Germany, and France accounted for 1.28% (7,542 people), 0.78% (4,592 people), and 0.74% (4,388 people) of the total which were up 461.58%, up 370.49%, and up 404.95% from the number in the same month last year.
   7. Other nationals accounted for 18,939 or 3.21%, up 15,438 or 440.96%.
   8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 181,884 or 30.80%, up 175,275 or 2652.07%. Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 155,244 or 85.35% of the total Overseas Chinese visitors.
3.  Main markets by type of visitor
   1. Mode of transportation and port of entry: There were 590,458 visitors, 96.47% by air of whom 569,625. 471,514 visitors or 79.86% through the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 47,670 visitors or 8.07% through Kaohsiung Airport. Meanwhile, there were 3.53% by sea of whom 20,833. 12,040 visitors or 2.04% through Kaohsiung port, 4,871 visitors or 0.82% through Keelung, 580 visitors or 0.10% through Taichung.
   2. Gender: Male visitors accounted for 47.72% (281,760 people) while female were 52.28% (308,698 people).
   3. Age: There were 85,688 (14.51%) visitors under 19-year-old, 256,503 (43.44%) between 20 to 39-year-old, 185,785 (31.46%) between 40 to 59-year-old, and 62,482 (10.58%) over 60-year-old.
   4. Purpose of visit: The main purposes are leisure, business, and relatives visiting with 389,282 (65.93%), 31,761 (5.38%), and 29,146 (4.94%) visitors.
   5. Length of stay: Most of visitors, 117,650 people or 19.93%, stayed 3 nights. Visitors staying 5-7 nights, 113,323 people or 19.20%, ranked second. Visitors stayed for 4 nights, 102,016 people or 17.28%, ranked third. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in August was 7.84 nights.
