A total of 516,396 visitors arrived in the Republic of China in May, 2023, increasing 483,930 or 1490.57% from the 32,466 in May of last year. The arrivals included 400,548 foreign visitors and 115,848 Overseas Chinese. Compared with May of last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 369,919 or 1207.74%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors increased by 114,011 or 6206.37%.

1. Main markets by residence
   1. Mainland China accounted for 13,601 or 2.63% of the total, up 1823.76%, consisting of 528 foreign visitors, up 17500.00% and 13,073 Overseas Chinese, up 1756.96%.
   2. Hong Kong and Macao, 106,227 or 20.57% of the total, up 21534.83%, consisting of 5,047 foreign visitors, up 45781.82%, and 101,180 Overseas Chinese, up 20979.17%.
   3. Japan accounted for 77,464 or 15.00% of the total, up 4538.56%, consisting of 77,382 foreign visitors, up 4581.31%, and 82 Overseas Chinese, up 382.35%.
   4. Korea, 58,093 or 11.25% of the total, up 11683.57%, consisting of 57,937 foreign visitors, up 11,970.21%, and 156 Overseas Chinese, up 1100.00%.
   5. Southeast Asia, 175,913 or 34.07% of the total, up 655.15%, consisting of 175,489 foreign visitors, up 656.94%, and 424 Overseas Chinese, up 281.98%.
   6. U.S.A., 40,604 or 7.86% of the total, up 2116.38%, consisting of 39,962 foreign visitors, up 2650.31%, and 642 Overseas Chinese, up 69.39%.
   7. Australia and New Zealand, 6,295or 1.22% of the total, up 2774.43%, consisting of 6,246 foreign visitors, up 3054.55%, and 49 Overseas Chinese, up 133.33%.
   8. Europe, 21,993 or 4.26% of the total, up 757.09%, consisting of 21,933 foreign visitors, up 769.67%, and 60 Overseas Chinese, up 36.36%.
   9. Other countries or regions accounted for 16,206 or 3.14% of the total, up 1258.42%, consisting of 16,024 foreign visitors, up 1324.36%, and 182 Overseas Chinese, up 167.65%.
2. Main markets by country of nationality
   1. There were 77,238 visitors from Japan accounting for 14.96% of the total. This was up 75,588 or 4581.09%, from the number in the same month last year.
   2. There were 58,098 visitors from Korea accounting for 11.25% of the total. This was up 57,616 or 11953.53%, from the number in the same month last year.
   3. There were 175,060 visitors from Southeast Asia accounting for 33.90% of the total. This was up 151,867 or 654.80%, from the number in the same month last year.
   4. There were 40,769 visitors from U.S.A accounting for 7.89% of the total. This was up 39,312 or 2698.15%, from the number in the same month last year.
   5. There were 7,126 visitors from Australia and New Zealand accounting for 1.38% of the total. This was up 6,925 or 3445.27%, from the number in the same month last year.
   6. There were 25,493 visitors from Europe accounting for 4.94% of the total. This was up 22,957, or 905.24%, from the number in the same month last year. Visitors from U.K., Germany, and France accounted for 1.28% (6,602 people), 0.82% (4,209 people), and 0.69% (3,567 people) of the total which were up 928.35%, up 1403.21%, and up 2115.53% from the number in the same month last year.
   7. Other nationals accounted for 16,764 or 3.25%, up 15,654 or 1410.27%.
   8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 115,848 or 22.43%, up 114,011 or 6206.37%. Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 101,180 or 87.34% of the total Overseas Chinese visitors.
3.  Main markets by type of visitor
   1. Mode of transportation and port of entry: There were 516,396 visitors, 95.33% by air of whom 492,297. 414,284 visitors or 80.23% through the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 38,529 visitors or 7.46% through Kaohsiung Airport. Meanwhile, there were 4.67% by sea of whom 24,099. 11,210 visitors or 2.17% through Kaohsiung port, 10,512 visitors or 2.04% through Keelung, 559 visitors or 0.11% through Taichung.
   2. Gender: Male visitors accounted for 49.03% (253,176 people) while female were 50.97% (263,220 people).
   3. Age: There were 33,581 (6.50%) visitors under 19-year-old, 229,353 (44.41%) between 20 to 39-year-old, 166,332 (32.21%) between 40 to 59-year-old, and 87,130 (16.87%) over 60-year-old.
   4. Purpose of visit: The main purposes are Leisure, business, and relatives visiting with 337,870 (65.43%), 41,007 (7.94%), and 26,980 (5.22%) visitors.
   5. Length of stay: Most of visitors, 117,629 people or 22.43%, stayed 3 nights. Visitors staying 5-7 nights, 97,000 people or 18.50%, ranked second. Visitors stayed for 4 nights, 85,836 people or 16.37%, ranked third. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in May was 6.90 nights.
