A total of 254,359 visitors arrived in the Republic of China in January, 2023, increasing 246,720 or 3229.74% from the 7,639 in January of last year. The arrivals included 230,839 foreign visitors and 23,520 Overseas Chinese. Compared with January of last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 225,066 or 3898.60%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors increased by 21,654 or 1160.45%.

I. Main markets by residence

1. Mainland China accounted for 9,633 or 3.79% of the total, up 794.43%, consisting of 297 foreign visitors, up 29600.00% and 9,336 Overseas Chinese, up 767.66%.
2. Hong Kong and Macao, 14,696 or 5.78% of the total, up 4098.86%, consisting of 2,521 foreign visitors, up 41916.67%, and 12,175 Overseas Chinese, up 3439.24%.
3. Japan accounted for 27,606 or 10.85% of the total, up 3246.18%, consisting of 27,473 foreign visitors, up 3317.04%, and 133 Overseas Chinese, up 533.33%.
4. Korea, 36,536 or 14.36% of the total, up 12327.21%, consisting of 36,299 foreign visitors, up 12,957.19%, and 237 Overseas Chinese, up 1381.25%.
5. Southeast Asia, 104,058 or 40.91% of the total, up 6101.31%, consisting of 103,575 foreign visitors, up 6254.29%, and 483 Overseas Chinese, up 906.25%.
6. U.S.A., 26,720 or 10.50% of the total, up 2522.18%, consisting of 26,141 foreign visitors, up 3127.28%, and 579 Overseas Chinese, up 177.03%.
7. Australia and New Zealand, 7,404 or 2.91% of the total, up 6630.91%, consisting of 7,273 foreign visitors, up 9224.36%, and 131 Overseas Chinese, up 309.38%.
8. Europe, 17,061 or 6.71% of the total, up 965.65%, consisting of 16,947 foreign visitors, up 990.54%, and 114 Overseas Chinese, up 142.55%.
9. Other countries or regions accounted for 10,645 or 4.19% of the total, up 1454.01%, consisting of 10,313 foreign visitors, up 1585.13%, and 332 Overseas Chinese, up 354.79%.

II. Main markets by country of nationality

1. There were 27,482 visitors from Japan accounting for 10.80% of the total. This was up 26,655 or 3223.10%, from the number in the same month last year.
2. There were 36,374 visitors from Korea accounting for 14.30% of the total. This was up 36,094, or 12890.71%, from the number in the same month last year.
3. There were 103,515 visitors from Southeast Asia accounting for 40.70% of the total. This was up 101,866 or 6177.44%, from the number in the same month last year.
4. There were 26,640 visitors from U.S.A accounting for 10.47% of the total. This was up 25,794 or 3048.94%, from the number in the same month last year.
5. There were 7,562 visitors from Australia and New Zealand accounting for 2.97% of the total. This was up 7,482, or 9352.50%, from the number in the same month last year.
6. There were 18,524 visitors from Europe accounting for 7.28% of the total. This was up 16,957, or 1082.13%, from the number in the same month last year. Visitors from U.K., Germany, and France accounted for 1.73% (4,391 people), 1.25% (3,183 people), and 1.11% (2,820 people) of the total which were up 1154.57%, up 1602.14%, and up 1588.62% from the number in the same month last year.
7. Other nationals accounted for 10,742 or 4.22%, up 10,218 or 1950.00%.
8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 23,520 or 9.25%, included 21,654 or 1160.45%. Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 12,175 or 51.76%, of the total Overseas Chinese visitors.

III. Main markets by type of visitor

1. Mode of transportation and port of entry: There were 254,359 visitors, 99.42% by air of whom 252,896. 220,133 visitors or 86.54% through the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 14,088 visitors or 5.54% through Kaohsiung Airport. Meanwhile, there were 0.58% by sea of whom 1,463. 713visitors or 0.28% through Kaohsiung port, 31 visitors or 0.01% through Keelung, 174 visitors or 0.07% through Taichung.
2. Gender: Male visitors accounted for 51.79% (131,721 people) while female were 48.21% (122,638 people).
3. Age: There were 22,313 (8.77%) visitors under 19-year-old, 116,448 (45.78%) between 20 to 39-year-old, 84,749 (33.32%) between 40 to 59-year-old, and 30,849 (12.13%) over 60-year-old.
4. Purpose of visit: The main purposes are Leisure, business, and relatives visiting with 117,839 (46.33%), 19,778 (7.78%), and 31,205 (12.27%) visitors.
5. Length of stay: Most of visitors, 95,316 people or 28.23%, stayed over 90 nights. Visitors staying 5-7 nights, 53,478 people or 15.84%, ranked second. Visitors stayed for 8-15 nights, 52,629 people or 15.58%, ranked third. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in January was 10.22 nights.
