Visitor Statistical Analysis for May, 2022

A total of 32,466 visitors arrived in the Republic of China in May, 2022, increasing 21,747 or 202.88% from the 10,719 in May of last year. The arrivals included 30,629 foreign visitors and 1,837 Overseas Chinese. Compared with May of last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 21,467 or 234.30%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors increased by 280 or 17.98%.
 

  1. Main markets by residence
    1. Mainland China accounted for 707 or 2.18% of the total, up 4.43%, consisting of 3 foreign visitors, up 0%, and 704 Overseas Chinese, up 4.45%.
    2. Hong Kong and Macao, 491 or 1.51% of the total, down 3.16%, consisting of 11 foreign visitors, up 175%, and 480 Overseas Chinese, down 4.57%.
    3. Japan accounted for 1,670 or 5.14% of the total, up 122.07%, consisting of 1,653 foreign visitors, up 122.48%, and 17 Overseas Chinese, up 88.89%.
    4. Korea, 493 or 1.52% of the total, up 109.79%, consisting of 480 foreign visitors, up 108.70%, and 13 Overseas Chinese, up 160%.
    5. Southeast Asia, 23,295 or 71.75% of the total, up 289.03%, consisting of 23,184 foreign visitors, up 288.60%, and 111 Overseas Chinese, up 404.55%.
    6. U.S.A., 1,832 or 5.64% of the total, up 90.04%, consisting of 1,453 foreign visitors, up 110.89%, and 379 Overseas Chinese, up 37.82%.
    7. Australia and New Zealand, 219 or 0.67% of the total, up 321.15%, consisting of 198 foreign visitors, up 360.47%, and 21 Overseas Chinese, up 133.33%.
    8. Europe, 2,566or 7.90% of the total, up 113.66%, consisting of 2,522 foreign visitors, up 114.27%, and 44 Overseas Chinese, up 83.33%
    9. Other countries or regions accounted for 1,193 or 3.67% of the total, up 247.81%, consisting of 1,125 foreign visitors, up 266.45%, and 68 Overseas Chinese, up 88.89%.
  2. Main markets by country of nationality
    1. There were 1,650 visitors from Japan accounting for 5.08% of the total. This was up 908 or 122.37%, from the number in the same month last year.
    2. There were 482 visitors from Korea accounting for 1.48% of the total. This was up 251, or 108.66%, from the number in the same month last year.
    3. There were 23,193 visitors from Southeast Asia accounting for 71.44% of the total. This was up 17,216 or 288.04%, from the number in the same month last year.
    4. There were 1,457 visitors from U.S.A accounting for 4.49% of the total. This was up 767 or 111.16%, from the number in the same month last year.
    5. There were 201 visitors from Australia and New Zealand accounting for 0.62% of the total. This was up 158, or 367.44%, from the number in the same month last year.
    6. There were 2,536 visitors from Europe accounting for 7.81% of the total. This was up 1,359, or 115.46%, from the number in the same month last year. Visitors from U.K., Germany, and France accounted for 1.98% (642 people), 0.86% (280 people), and 0.50% (161 people) of the total which were up 197.22%, up174.51%, and up 80.90% from the number in the same month last year.
    7. Other nationals accounted for 1,110 or 3.42%, up 808 or 267.55%.
    8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 1,837 or 5.66%, up 280 or 17.98%. Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 480 or 26.13%, of the total Overseas Chinese visitors.
  3.  Main markets by type of visitor
    1. Mode of transportation and port of entry: There were 32,466 visitors, 96.41% by air of whom 31,310. 30,447 visitors or 93.78% through the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 98 visitors or 0.30% through Kaohsiung Airport. Meanwhile, there were 3.59% by sea of whom 1,165. 361 visitors or 1.11% through Kaohsiung port, 14 visitors or 0.04% through Keelung, 597 visitors or 1.84% through Taichung.
    2. Gender: Male visitors accounted for 66.38% (21,550 people) while female were 33.62% (10,916 people).
    3. Age: There were 1,978 (6.09%) visitors under 19-year-old, 23,040 (70.97%) between 20 to 39-year-old, 6,492 (20%) between 40 to 59-year-old, and 956 (2.94%) over 60-year-old.
    4. Purpose of visit: The main purposes are Leisure, business, and relatives visiting with 27 (0.08%), 2,668 (8.22%), and 1,556 (4.79%) visitors.
    5. Length of stay: Most of visitors, 18,698 people or 77.53%, stayed over 90 nights. Visitors staying 31-60 nights, 1,950 people or 8.09%, ranked second. Visitors stayed for 16-30 nights, 1,206 people or 5%, ranked third. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in May was 34.26 nights.
