A total of 7,639 visitors arrived in the Republic of China in January, 2022, decreasing 7,155 or -48.36% from the 14,794 in January of last year. The arrivals included 5,773 foreign visitors and 1,866 Overseas Chinese. Compared with January of last year, the number of foreign visitors decreased by 6,406 or -52.60%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors increased by 749 or -28.64%.
 

1. Main markets by residence
   1. Mainland China accounted for 1,077 or 14.10% of the total, down 24.21%, consisting of 1 foreign visitors, up 100%.and 1,076 Overseas Chinese, down 24.28%.
   2. Hong Kong and Macao, 350 or 4.58% of the total, down 45.90%, consisting of 6 foreign visitors, down 50.00%, and 344 Overseas Chinese, down 45.83%.
   3. Japan accounted for 825 or 10.80% of the total, down 22.90%, consisting of 804 foreign visitors, down 22.91%, and 21 Overseas Chinese, down 22.22%.
   4. Korea, 294 or 3.85% of the total, down 11.18%, consisting of 278 foreign visitors, down 11.18%, and 16 Overseas Chinese, down 11.11%.
   5. Southeast Asia, 1,678 or 21.97% of the total, down 76.85%, consisting of 1,630 foreign visitors, down 77.37%, and 48 Overseas Chinese, up 2.13%.
   6. U.S.A., 1,019 or 13.34% of the total, down 35.63%, consisting of 810 foreign visitors, down 35.71%, and 209 Overseas Chinese, down 35.29%.
   7. Australia and New Zealand, 110 or 1.44% of the total, up 46.67%, consisting of 78 foreign visitors, up 21.88%, and 32 Overseas Chinese, up 190.91%.
   8. Europe, 1,601 or 20.96% of the total, down 3.90%, consisting of 1,554 foreign visitors, down 3.84%, and 47 Overseas Chinese, down 6%.
   9. Other countries or regions accounted for 685 or 8.97% of the total, down 8.91%, consisting of 612 foreign visitors, down 8.52%, and 73 Overseas Chinese, down 12.05%.
2. Main markets by country of nationality
   1. There were 827 visitors from Japan accounting for 10.31% of the total. This was down 218 or -20.86%, from the number in the same month last year.
   2. There were 280 visitors from Korea accounting for 3.67% of the total. This was down 39, or -12.23%, from the number in the same month last year.
   3. There were 1,649visitors from Southeast Asia accounting for 21.59% of the total. This was down 5,645 or -77.39%, from the number in the same month last year.
   4. There were 846 visitors from U.S.A accounting for 11.07% of the total. This was down 412 or -32.75%, from the number in the same month last year.
   5. There were 80 visitors from Australia and New Zealand accounting for 1.05% of the total. This was up 13, or 19.40%, from the number in the same month last year.
   6. There were 1,567 visitors from Europe accounting for 20.51% of the total. This was down 63, or -3.87%, from the number in the same month last year. Visitors from U.K., Germany, and France accounted for 4.58% (350 people), 2.45% (187 people), and 2.19% (167 people) of the total which were up 29.63%, down 26.38%, and down 19.71% from the number in the same month last year.
   7. Other nationals accounted for 524 or 6.86%, down 42 or -7.42%.
   8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 1,866 or 24.43%, down 749 or -28.64%. Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 344 or 18.44%, of the total Overseas Chinese visitors.
3.  Main markets by type of visitor
   1. Mode of transportation and port of entry: There were 7,639 visitors, 93.61% by air of whom ,7,151. 6,490 visitors or 84.96% through the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 183 visitors or 2.40% through Kaohsiung Airport. Meanwhile, there were 6.39% by sea of whom 488. 226 visitors or 2.96% through Kaohsiung port, 40 visitors or 0.52%, through Keelung, 30 visitors or 0.39% through Taichung.
   2. Gender: Male visitors accounted for 64.17% (4,902 people) while female were 35.83% (2,737people).
   3. Age: There were 799 (10.46%) visitors under 19-year-old, 3,583 (46.90%) between 20 to 39-year-old, 2,794 (36.58%) between 40 to 59-year-old, and 463 (6.06%) over 60-year-old.
   4. Purpose of visit: The main purposes are Leisure, business, and relatives visiting with 1 (0.01%), 642 (8.40%), and 593 (7.76%) visitors.
   5. Length of stay: Most of visitors, 13,283 people or 75.52%, stayed over 90 nights. Visitors staying 31-60 nights, 2,639 people or 15%, ranked second. Visitors stayed for 16-30 nights, 809 people or 4.60%, ranked third. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in January was 40.89 nights.
