Visitor Statistical Analysis for December, 2019-Tourism Administration, M.O.T.C. Republic of China

A total of 1,143,201 visitors arrived in the Republic of China in December, 2019, increasing 18,089 or 1.61% from the 1,125,112 in December of last year. The arrivals included 857,073 foreign visitors and 286,128 Overseas Chinese. Compared with December of last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 118,499 or 16.04%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors decreased by 100,410 or 25.98%.

Main markets by residence
1. Mainland China accounted for 103,791 or 9.08% of the total, down 55.30%, consisting of 2,856 foreign visitors, down 19.93%, and 100,935 Overseas Chinese, down 55.85%.
2. Hong Kong and Macao, 195,347 or 17.09% of the total, up 16.28%, consisting of 12,412 foreign visitors, up 1.49%, and 182,935 Overseas Chinese, up 17.45%.
3. Japan accounted for 225,350 or 19.7% of the total, up 12.62%, consisting of 225,177 foreign visitors, up 12.65%, and 173 Overseas Chinese, down 13.5%.
4. Korea, 160,667 or 14.05% of the total, up 47.047%, consisting of 160,437 foreign visitors, up 47.23%, and 230 Overseas Chinese, down 21.23%.
5. Southeast Asia, 312,628 or 27.35% of the total, up 10.53%, consisting of 311,849 foreign visitors, up 10.53%, and 779 Overseas Chinese, up 10.50%.
6. U.S.A., 65,450 or 5.73% of the total, up 5.70%, consisting of 64,946 foreign visitors, up 5.68%, and 504 Overseas Chinese, down 8.39%.
7. Australia and New Zealand, 20,397 or 1.78% of the total, up 9.73%, consisting of 20,311 foreign visitors, up 9.74%, and 86 Overseas Chinese, up 7.50%.
8. Europe, 33,892 or 2.96% of the total, up 15.29%, consisting of 33,812 foreign visitors, up 15.26%, and 80 Overseas Chinese, up 29.03%.
9. Other countries or regions accounted for 25,679 or 2.25% of the total, up 12.66%, consisting of 25,273 foreign visitors, up 12.54%, and 406 Overseas Chinese, up 20.12%.
Main markets by country of nationality
1. There were 223,816 visitors from Japan accounting for 19.58% of the total. This was up 24,914 or 12.53%, from the number in the same month last year.
2. There were 160,947 visitors from Korea accounting for 14.08% of the total. This was up 51,217, or 46.68%, from the number in the same month last year.
3. There were 311,885 visitors from Southeast Asia accounting for 27.28% of the total. This was up 30,012, or 10.65%, from the number in the same month last year.
4. There were 67,390 visitors from U.S.A accounting for 5.89% of the total. This was up 3,476, or 5.44%, from the number in the same month last year.
5. There were 22,116 visitors from Australia and New Zealand accounting for 1.93% of the total. This was up 1,752, or 8.60%, from the number in the same month last year.
6. There were 41,564 visitors from Europe accounting for 3.64% of the total. This was up 4,279, or 11.48%, from the number in the same month last year. Visitors from U.K., Germany, and France accounted for 0.97% (11,129 people), 0.51% (5,852 people), and 0.49% (5,546 people) of the total which were up 13.83%, 0.51%, and up 4.88% from the number in the same month last year.
7. Other nationals accounted for 29,355 or 2.57%, up 2,849 or 10.75%.
8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 286,128 or 25.03%, down 100,410 or -25.98%. Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 182,935, or 63.93%, of the total Overseas Chinese visitors.
Main markets by type of visitor
1. Mode of transportation and port of entry: There were 1,143,201 visitors, 96.07%, by air of whom 1,098,284, or 77.61%, through the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 887,294, or 9.41%, through Kaohsiung Airport. Meanwhile, there were 44,917 visitors, 3.93%, by sea, 4,007 people, or 0.35%, through Kaohsiung port, 16,195 people, or 1.42%, through Keelung, 670 people, or 0.06%, through Taichung.
2. Gender: Male visitors accounted for 47.39% (541,763 people) while female were 52.61% (601,438 people).
3. Age: There were 172,639 (15.10%) visitors under 19-year-old, 452,488 (39.58%) between 20 to 39-year-old, 374,185(32.73%) between 40 to 59-year-old, and 311,666(27.26%) over 59-year-old.
4. Purpose of visit: The main purposes are Leasure, business, and relatives visiting with 835,292 (73.07%), 58,035 (5.08%), and 54,040 (4.73%) visitors.
5. Length of stay: Most of visitors, 263,548 people or 24.14%, stayed for 3 nights. Visitors staying 5 to 7 nights, 220,568 people or 20.21%, ranked second. Visitors staying 4 nights, 159,914 people or 14.65%, ranked third. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in December was 5.95 nights.
