Visitor Statistical Analysis for May, 2021

A total of 10,719 visitors arrived in the Republic of China in May, 2021, increasing 7,469 or 229.82% from the 3,250 in May of last year. The arrivals included 9,162 foreign visitors and 1,557 Overseas Chinese. Compared with May of last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 6,717 or 274.72%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors increased by 752 or 93.42%.

1. Main markets by residence
   1. Mainland China accounted for 677 or 6.32% of the total, up 16.52%, consisting of 3 foreign visitors, and 674 Overseas Chinese, up 16.01%.
   2. Hong Kong and Macao, 507 or 4.73% of the total, up 482.76%, consisting of 4 foreign visitors, down 42.86%, and 503 Overseas Chinese, up 528.75%.
   3. Japan accounted for 752 or 7.02% of the total, up 210.74%, consisting of 743 foreign visitors, up 216.17%, and 9 Overseas Chinese, up 28.57%.
   4. Korea, 235 or 2.19% of the total, up 100.85%, consisting of 230 foreign visitors, up 109.09%, and 5 Overseas Chinese, down 28.57%.
   5. Southeast Asia, 5,988 or 55.86% of the total, up 340.62%, consisting of 5,966 foreign visitors, up 348.57%, and 22 Overseas Chinese, down 24.14%.
   6. U.S.A., 964 or 8.99% of the total, up 215.03%, consisting of 689 foreign visitors, up 196.98%, and 275 Overseas Chinese, up 271.62%.
   7. Australia and New Zealand, 52 or 0.49% of the total, up 126.09%, consisting of 43 foreign visitors, up 95.45%, and 9 Overseas Chinese, up 800%.
   8. Europe, 1,201 or 11.20% of the total, up 221.12%, consisting of 1,177 foreign visitors, up 217.25%, and 24 Overseas Chinese, up 700%.
   9. Other countries or regions accounted for 343 or 3.20% of the total, up 113.04%, consisting of 307 foreign visitors, up 122.46%, and 36 Overseas Chinese, up 56.52%.
2. Main markets by country of nationality
   1. There were 742 visitors from Japan accounting for 6.92% of the total. This was up 507 or 215.74%, from the number in the same month last year.
   2. There were 231 visitors from Korea accounting for 2.16% of the total. This was up 121, or 110%, from the number in the same month last year.
   3. There were 5,977 visitors from Southeast Asia accounting for 55.76% of the total. This was up 4,625, or 342.09%, from the number in the same month last year.
   4. There were 690 visitors from U.S.A accounting for 6.44% of the total. This was up 459 or 198.70%, from the number in the same month last year.
   5. There were 43 visitors from Australia and New Zealand accounting for 0.40% of the total. This was up 21, or 95.45%, from the number in the same month last year.
   6. There were 1,177 visitors from Europe accounting for 10.98% of the total. This was up 797, or 209.74%, from the number in the same month last year. Visitors from U.K., Germany, and France accounted for 2.02% (216 people), 0.95% (102 people), and 0.83% (89 people) of the total which were up 340.82%, up 112.50%, and up 394.44% from the number in the same month last year.
   7. Other nationals accounted for 302 or 2.82%, up 187 or 162.61%.
   8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 1,557 or 14.53%, up 752 or 93.42%. Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 507, or 32.56%, of the total Overseas Chinese visitors.
3.  Main markets by type of visitor
   1. Mode of transportation and port of entry: There were 10,719 visitors, 92.14% by air of whom 9,877. 9,243 visitors or 86.23% through the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 193 visitors or 1.8% through Kaohsiung Airport. Meanwhile, there were 7.86% by sea of whom 842. 311visitors or 2.90% through Kaohsiung port, 42 visitors or 0.39%, through Keelung, 352 visitors or 3.28% through Taichung.
   2. Gender: Male visitors accounted for 71.97% (7,715 people) while female were 28.03% (3,004people).
   3. Age: There were 888(8.28%) visitors under 19-year-old, 6,760(63.07%) between 20 to 39-year-old, 2,642(24.65%) between 40 to 59-year-old, and 429(4.00%) over 60-year-old.
   4. Purpose of visit: The main purposes are Leisure, business, and relatives visiting with 21(0.20%), 1,060 (9.89%), and 649 (6.05%) visitors.
   5. Length of stay: Most of visitors, 11,508 people or 66.90%, stayed over 90 nights. Visitors staying 16-30 nights, 2,288 people or 13.30%, ranked second. Visitors stayed for 31-60 nights, 1,647 people or 9.57%, ranked third. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in May was 34.54 nights.
