A total of 9,992visitors arrived in the Republic of China in December, 2021, decreasing 12,020 or -54.61% from the 22,012 in December of last year. The arrivals included 7,465foreign visitors and 2,527 Overseas Chinese. Compared with December of last year, the number of foreign visitors decreased by 12,236 or -62.11%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors increased by 216 or 9.35%.

Main markets by residence
1. Mainland China accounted for 1,380 or 13.81% of the total, up 16.16%, consisting of 0 foreign visitors, down 100%.and 1,380 Overseas Chinese, up 16.26%.
2. Hong Kong and Macao, 541 or 5.41% of the total, down 17.28%, consisting of 9 foreign visitors, down 59.09%, and 532 Overseas Chinese, down 15.82%.
3. Japan accounted for 734 or 7.35% of the total, down 17.81%, consisting of 701 foreign visitors, down 19.89%, and 33 Overseas Chinese, up 83.33%.
4. Korea, 295 or 2.95% of the total, down 23.18%, consisting of 271 foreign visitors, down 27.93%, and 24 Overseas Chinese, up 200.00%.
5. Southeast Asia, 3,820 or 38.23% of the total, down 74.79%, consisting of 3,743 foreign visitors, down 75.21%, and 77 Overseas Chinese, up 42.59%.
6. U.S.A., 1,126 or 11.27% of the total, down 13.78%, consisting of 826 foreign visitors, down 19.73%, and 300 Overseas Chinese, up 8.30%.
7. Australia and New Zealand, 112 or 1.12% of the total, up 31.76%, consisting of 74 foreign visitors, down 0.00%, and 38 Overseas Chinese, up 245.45%.
8. Europe, 1,102 or 11.03% of the total, up 10.42%, consisting of 1,043 foreign visitors, down 9.33%, and 59 Overseas Chinese, up 34.09%.
9. Other countries or regions accounted for 882 or 8.81% of the total, down 34.72%, consisting of 798 foreign visitors, down 37.21%, and 84 Overseas Chinese, up 5.00%.
Main markets by country of nationality
1. There were 730 visitors from Japan accounting for 7.31% of the total. This was down 146 or -16.67%, from the number in the same month last year.
2. There were 286 visitors from Korea accounting for 2.86% of the total. This was down 92, or -24.34%, from the number in the same month last year.
3. There were 3,853visitors from Southeast Asia accounting for 38.56% of the total. This was down 11,850 or -75.46%, from the number in the same month last year.
4. There were 862 visitors from U.S.A accounting for 8.63% of the total. This was down 171 or -16.55%, from the number in the same month last year.
5. There were 80 visitors from Australia and New Zealand accounting for 0.80% of the total. This was up 3, or 3.90%, from the number in the same month last year.
6. There were 1,093 visitors from Europe accounting for 10.94% of the total. This was up 120, or 12.33%, from the number in the same month last year. Visitors from U.K., Germany, and France accounted for 2.15% (215 people), 1.37% (137 people), and 0.78% (178 people) of the total which were up 4.37%, down 0.72%, and down 26.42% from the number in the same month last year.
7. Other nationals accounted for 561 or 5.61%, down 100 or -15.13%.
8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 2,527 or 25.29%, up 216 or 9.35%. Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 532 or -78.95%, of the total Overseas Chinese visitors.
Main markets by type of visitor
1. Mode of transportation and port of entry: There were 9,992 visitors, 81.58% by air of whom 8,151. 7,267 visitors or 72.73% through the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 439 visitors or 4.39% through Kaohsiung Airport. Meanwhile, there were 18.42% by sea of whom 1,841. 1,415 visitors or 14.16% through Kaohsiung port, 49 visitors or 0.49%, through Keelung, 263visitors or 2.63% through Taichung.
2. Gender: Male visitors accounted for 68.52% (6,847 people) while female were 31.48% (3,145people).
3. Age: There were 1,156(11.57%) visitors under 19-year-old, 5,403(54.07%) between 20 to 39-year-old, 2,952(29.54%) between 40 to 59-year-old, and 481(4.81%) over 60-year-old.
4. Purpose of visit: The main purposes are Leisure, business, and relatives visiting with 13(0.13%), 672 (6.73%), and 792 (7.93%) visitors.
5. Length of stay: Most of visitors, 12,952 people or 70.39%, stayed over 90 nights. Visitors staying 16-30 nights, 1,759 people or 9.56%, ranked second. Visitors stayed for 31-60 nights, 1,662 people or 9.03%, ranked third. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in December was 32.39 nights.
