Visitor Statistical Analysis for August, 2021

A total of 7,960visitors arrived in the Republic of China in August, 2021, decreasing 10,576 or -57.06% from the 18,536 in August of last year. The arrivals included 2,322 foreign visitors and 5,638 Overseas Chinese. Compared with August of last year, the number of foreign visitors decreased by 8,344 or -49.01%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors decreased by 2,232 or -59.68%.

1. Main markets by residence
   1. Mainland China accounted for 1,147 or 14.41% of the total, down 17.66%, consisting of 0 foreign visitors,down 100%.and 1,147 Overseas Chinese, down 17.60%.
   2. Hong Kong and Macao, 913 or 11.47% of the total, down 66.45%, consisting of 0 foreign visitors, down 100.00%, and 913 Overseas Chinese, down 66.10%.
   3. Japan accounted for 976 or 12.26% of the total, down 28.13%, consisting of 958 foreign visitors, down 28.98%, and 18 Overseas Chinese, up 100.00%.
   4. Korea, 302 or 3.79% of the total, down 49.67%, consisting of 274 foreign visitors, down 50.98%, and 28 Overseas Chinese, down 31.71%.
   5. Southeast Asia, 1,219 or 15.31% of the total, down 86.46%, consisting of 1,197 foreign visitors, down 86.65%, and 22 Overseas Chinese, down 35.29%.
   6. U.S.A., 1,038 or 13.04% of the total, down 12.33%, consisting of 918 foreign visitors, up 2.23%, and 120 Overseas Chinese, down 58.04%.
   7. Australia and New Zealand, 44 or 0.55% of the total, down 35.29%, consisting of 41 foreign visitors, down 36.92%, and 3 Overseas Chinese, up 0.00%.
   8. Europe, 1,622 or 20.38% of the total, up 1.88%, consisting of 1,592 foreign visitors, up 2.12%, and 30 Overseas Chinese, down 9.09%.
   9. Other countries or regions accounted for 699 or 8.78% of the total, down 34.92%, consisting of 658 foreign visitors, up 18.35%, and 41 Overseas Chinese, down 34.92%.
2. Main markets by country of nationality
   1. There were 958 visitors from Japan accounting for 12.04% of the total. This was down 397 or -29.30%, from the number in the same month last year.
   2. There were 275 visitors from Korea accounting for 3.45% of the total. This was down 288, or -51.15%, from the number in the same month last year.
   3. There were 1,232 visitors from Southeast Asia accounting for 15.48% of the total. This was down 7,804, or -86.37%, from the number in the same month last year.
   4. There were 917 visitors from U.S.A accounting for 11.52% of the total. This was up 7 or 0.77%, from the number in the same month last year.
   5. There were 41 visitors from Australia and New Zealand accounting for 0.52% of the total. This was down 24, or -36.92%, from the number in the same month last year.
   6. There were 1,592 visitors from Europe accounting for 20.00% of the total. This was up 17, or 1.08%, from the number in the same month last year. Visitors from U.K., Germany, and France accounted for 2.88% (229 people), 2.19% (174 people), and 2.37% (189 people) of the total which were down 24.42%, up 9.43%, and up 14.55% from the number in the same month last year.
   7. Other nationals accounted for 623 or 7.83%, up 145 or 30.33%.
   8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 2,322 or 29.17%, down 2,232 or -49.01%. Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 913, or 39.32%, of the total Overseas Chinese visitors.
3.  Main markets by type of visitor
   1. Mode of transportation and port of entry: There were 7,960 visitors, 91.38% by air of whom 7,274. 6,382 visitors or 80.18% through the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 263 visitors or 3.30% through Kaohsiung Airport. Meanwhile, there were 8.62% by sea of whom 686. 305 visitors or 3.83% through Kaohsiung port,54 visitors or 0.68%, through Keelung, 94 visitors or 1.18% through Taichung.
   2. Gender: Male visitors accounted for 58.05% (4,621 people) while female were 41.95% (3,339people).
   3. Age: There were 964(12.11%) visitors under 19-year-old, 3,876(48.69%) between 20 to 39-year-old, 2,706(33.99%) between 40 to 59-year-old, and 414(5.20%) over 60-year-old.
   4. Purpose of visit: The main purposes are Leisure, business, and relatives visiting with 1(0.01%), 514 (6.46%), and 117 (1.47%) visitors.
   5. Length of stay: Most of visitors, 9,539 people or 75.03%, stayed over 90 nights. Visitors staying 31-60 nights, 1,970 people or 15.50%, ranked second. Visitors stayed for 61-90 nights, 407 people or 3.20%, ranked third. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in August was 42.40 nights.
