The 12th Tourism Ministerial Meeting (TMM12) of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum will be held in Peru starting on June 8, 2024. To continue dialogue with the tourism industry and respond to post-pandemic international tourism recovery trends, Deputy Minister Kuo-Hsien Lin and Director General Yung-Hui Chou will lead a delegation representing Taiwan.
This year marks the third time Peru is hosting APEC after 2008 and 2016. The theme is "Empower. Include. Grow." with three priority areas: "Trade and Investment to Promote Inclusive and Interconnected Growth", "Innovation and Digitalization to Drive Formal and Global Economic Transformation", and "Sustainable Growth to Promote Resilient Development". During its APEC host year, Peru will hold major meetings across five cities, with this Tourism Ministerial taking place in Urubamba, Cusco Province.
Deputy Minister Lin stated: "In the post-pandemic era, the world is vying for international tourism markets. Through the APEC Tourism Ministerial, we can align with international marketing for Taiwan. I hope APEC economies can collaborate to address challenges and opportunities facing the tourism industry, jointly striving towards sustainable tourism growth goals for the new generation." Moreover, as the host nation, Peru possesses unique natural resources. Its Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism has developed diverse thematic offerings like MICE tourism, adventure travel, and digital nomad experiences, complemented by tailored promotional strategies. Their approach provides valuable insights to share and learn from.
Director General Chou remarked: "This is the Tourism Administration's first APEC ministerial meeting after its upgrade. We are currently implementing the "Taiwan Tourism Toward 2030 Strategic Plan" with its dual transformation goals of "Sustainability x Digitalization" to align with this APEC meeting's topics and global post-pandemic tourism trends. Going forward, the Tourism Administration will actively participate in international conferences while organizing diverse Taiwan tourism promotion events to expand our tourism markets and attract more global visitors. This showcases Taiwan's post-pandemic tourism recovery strength and enhances our international visibility."
