Cheng Dai-Le is a contemporary Chinese calligrapher, painter and seal carver. Currently, he serves as the Dean of the Department of Fine Arts of National Taiwan Normal University. He once served as a Review Committee member of different major art exhibitions in Taiwan. His works have been collected by different major museums of art, and received numerous awards. He once served as a part-time Associate Professor of National Kaohsiung Normal University, as well as a full-time Professor and the Dean of Fine Art Education Department of National Taichung Teachers’ College.

Description:
Forsaking the traditionally established rules for Chinese calligraphy, the Chinese calligrapher develops his thoughts towards aesthetics in this work. When writing the words, he uses the view of Liuying and the reflection in the Jianshanpi reservoir as a reference, and strives for innovation, presenting a unique sense of painting in Chinese calligraphy art.
Appreciation:
The layout shows the rules developed by the artist. The words’ form presents the artist’s inner feelings about the image and his expressed emotions. Mainly displayed in seal script, the work also uses semi-cursive and cursive scripts for interpretation. It reveals the artistic form of selfhood, and leads Chinese calligraphy to enter a more enlightening phase.
