Description:
Located at the northern side of Wushantou Reservoir, Hatta Yoichi Memorial Park was built to commemorate the builder of Chianan Canal – Mr. Hatta Yoichi. The building of the Memorial Park was renovated in 2009. After the renovation project lasting for two years, Hatta Yoichi Memorial Park was officially opened in 2011. In order to faithfully restore to its original form, the renovation technicians of the old building went to the hometown of Hatta Yoichi, Ishikawa Prefecture, and used the buildings there as a reference. They introduced the Japanese woodworking skills to build this Park. The calligrapher of this work selected a poem for Hatta Yoichi written by LU, ZI-YANG to show his genuine sincerity of respect and reverence for the prominent historical figure.
Appreciation:
The poem for Hatta Yoichi written by LU, ZI-YANG is selected by the calligrapher and through the warm, sleek and smooth semi-cursive script, the strokes exactly echo the contents of the poem. They not only present the historical figure’s magnificent ambition and determination in planning and building such a great project for the large piece of excellent land in Chiayi-Tainan Plain, but also reveal the calligrapher’s love for the people, homeland and countryside. The calligrapher was formerly the Head of Siraya National Scenic Area Administration Office, and this Memorial Park was an area under his management. Therefore, this work gives continuity and his legacy.
Transcription:
Hatta came to Taiwan at a at a young age,
Just for the reservoir project by the side of Wushan.
The irrigation system covers a land area of 25 acres in Chiayi and Tainan.
His feat will have a lasting impact as the canal water continues to flow for thousands of years.
