A Few Words from the Director

Sun Moon Lake is the largest lake in Taiwan and covers a vast area, surrounded by lush mountains, mountain rivers and mist. Together with temples, Ci'en Pagoda, floating fields in the lake, and Lalu Island, it is home to tranquil and romantic beautiful scenery, making it a classic tourist spot in Taiwan and a national scenic area with international appeal.

Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area is located in Nantou County, includes parts of Puli, Yuchi, Shuili, Jiji and Xinyi townships and has a total management area of 19,100 hectares. For developmental purposes it is divided into five major recreational systems: Huantan, Puli, Jiji, Shuilixi and Zhuoshui River.

Since Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Headquarters was established, it has shouldered the mission of rebuilding and reviving the splendor of the local area after the 921 Earthquake in 1999. With the full cooperation and assistance of people from all walks of life and the concerted efforts of colleagues at the Headquarters, numerous reconstruction and innovation tasks have been completed, with alpine lakes and multiculturalism two focal points for tourism development. Together with water and land activities, these provide high-quality and diverse leisure and entertainment experiences, as part of efforts to build a safe, sustainable and beautiful lakeside leisure and holiday environment.

As it looks to the future, the Headquarters will take advantage of convenient transportation links, while also striving to promote the development of tourism as it works to become "a leader in high-quality tourism," "a model friendly resort environment" and "the first choice for tourism industry investment," with the goal of "demonstrating sustainable resource utilization." As such, Sun Moon Lake seeks to become an international standard tourist hub in central Taiwan, driving the development of the domestic tourism industry.

Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Headquarters wishes you good health and happiness
