In the Siraya language, “Siraya” refers to the “people”. The Siraya people are an indigenous ethnic group that has resided in Taiwan for thousands of years, primarily in the Chianan Plain. To emphasize the local characteristics of Siraya culture, the Siraya National Scenic Area was initially named the "Five-Reservoir National Scenic Area" (including the Tsengwen Reservoir, Wusanto Reservoir, Baihe Reservoir, Jianshanpi Reservoir, and Hutopi Reservoir) during its preparatory period in 2005. Out of respect for the Siraya people and the desire to preserve their culture, it was officially designated the "Siraya National Scenic Area" and began official operations on November 26, 2005. The Siraya National Scenic Area is the 13th national scenic area designated by the Tourism Bureau. Its mission is to plan development ,manage operations within the Area's jurisdiction, enhance the quality of tourism and recreational environments and activities, and promote local industries.
