The 2026 “Matsu in Twilight” series of events comes to a spectacular finale! Matsu National Scenic Area Headquarters, Tourism Administration, Ministry of Transportation and Communications will present a special Chinese music concert on Saturday, September 19. The event will feature the Lamigo Chinese Orchestra, whose melodious traditional music will connect two of Matsu’s most iconic tourist attractions. In the afternoon, the orchestra will first head into the Beihai Tunnel on Nangan for a special pop-up performance. In the evening, the musicians will take the stage at the viewing platform of the Giant Mazu Statue, where they will present a main concert surrounded by mountains and sea, with the towering statue of Mazu as their companion. From the depths of the tunnel to the open air, the music will flow through two distinctly different spaces and soundscapes, bringing out the unique island. The highlight of this “Chinese Music Feast” is the way music and Matsu’s distinctive landscapes come together as the centerpiece of the performances. At 2 p.m. that afternoon, the Lamigo Chinese Orchestra will present a special pop-up concert at the Beihai Tunnel, with members of the orchestra performing aboard a sampan moored along the shore. Originally constructed for military defense purposes, the Beihai Tunnel features rock walls, waterways, and a distinctive enclosed space that create a natural echo effect. As the melodies of traditional Chinese music fill the tunnel, the sounds will ripple and reverberate across the water and rock walls. Combined with the tunnel’s characteristic interplay of dim light and shadows and the scenery reflected on the water, the performance will offer a listening experience that would be difficult to recreate in a conventional concert hall, allowing visitors to experience Matsu’s historic military landscape from a whole new perspective. As night falls, the main concert will make its debut at 6:30 p.m. at the viewing platform of the Giant Mazu Statue. Led by Director Chu Wen-Pin, the Lamigo Chinese Orchestra will perform against the backdrop of the 29.6-meter-tall Giant Mazu Statue and its ship-shaped platform, accompanied by the sea breeze, evening sky, and sweeping ocean views. This year, the Mazu Religious Culture Park was honored with the Gold Award in the Best Management and Maintenance category at the 2026 National Excellence in Construction Awards. Through this special performance, traditional Chinese music will be combined with the park’s religious and cultural landscape and the island’s enchanting nighttime scenery. A landmark of Matsu will be transformed into an outdoor concert stage, showcasing a distinctive new dimension of Matsu’s nighttime tourism experience. In addition to the two featured performances, the evening main event will offer a variety of activities for visitors to enjoy. Visitors from outside Lienchiang County who present a valid flight or ferry ticket can receive a complimentary tasting of freshly cooked Matsu mussels, with only 200 servings available. Visitors who like the “Go Go Matsu” Facebook fan page on site can also receive a raffle ticket and take part in the finale prize draw. Lucky winners will have the chance to take home one mace of gold, round-trip air tickets between Taipei and Matsu, and a selection of exquisite gifts. From music and breathtaking scenery to local cuisine, the event invites visitors to experience the diverse charms of Matsu’s autumn nighttime tourism all in one unforgettable evening. Director Hong Chih-Kuang of Matsu National Scenic Area Headquarters said that the 2026 “Matsu in Twilight” series aims to connect Matsu’s military heritage sites, natural landscapes, and distinctive recreational destinations through a diverse range of musical performances. The finale event, the “Chinese Music Feast,” takes this concept a step further by bringing traditional Chinese music to two vastly different settings—the Beihai Tunnel and the viewing platform of the Giant Mazu Statue. The music will take on different expressions as it resonates through the tunnel, interacts with reflections and light on the water, and blends with the nighttime mountain-and-sea scenery outdoors. Visitors are warmly invited to step into the Beihai Tunnel on September 19 and experience the echoes of traditional Chinese music, then head to the viewing platform of the Giant Mazu Statue after nightfall. Accompanied by melodious music and the gentle sea breeze, visitors can create an unforgettable autumn-night memory as the 2026 “Matsu in Twilight” series comes to a close.
