A historic moment! Today (6th), the highly anticipated Matsu-Penghu charter flight officially made its inaugural journey, with 70 passengers aboard smoothly touching down at Nangan Airport. The Civil Aviation Administration's Matsu Airport arranged a ceremonial water salute, symbolizing the close connection now linking the two jewels of the Taiwan Strait—Matsu and Penghu—through this new air route. The Matsu National Scenic Area Headquarters (hereinafter referred to as Matsu NSA), Tourism Administration, MOTC, together with the Traffic and Tourism Bureau, Lienchiang County, warmly congratulated this inaugural flight. They expressed hope that through close collaboration between travel operators in the "Matsu Tourism Union" and the "Penghu Tourism Union," both regions can establish regular exchange mechanisms, deepen their cooperation in tourism, culture, and industry, and continue developing off-season visitor base for the outlying islands through tourism momentum initiated by local operators themselves.
This inaugural charter flight holds extraordinary significance. It represents not only a pioneering achievement in air travel between Matsu and Penghu but also the fruitful result of active coordination by private operators. Matsu NSA noted that this fully demonstrates the "bottom-up" integration power of the tourism union, where local operators are no longer waiting passively but taking the initiative to jointly create new opportunities for the development of tourism in Matsu.
Director Hung, Chih-kuang of Matsu NSA stated that Matsu's peak tourism season has traditionally been concentrated in spring and summer during the "Blue Tears" phenomenon. However, the autumn and winter seasons in Matsu offer an entirely different tranquil charm and deep cultural heritage. This charter flight was specifically launched in November with the core objective of "promoting off-season tourism," introducing visitors to the military heritage, Mindong architecture, distinctive cuisine, and rich ecological trails that Matsu has to offer.
Director Hung emphasized that Matsu NSA has been dedicated to promoting "four-season tourism" and "sustainable tourism" in Matsu. With this charter flight initiative from the private sector, Matsu NSA and the Lienchiang County Government are providing full support for related marketing and promotional efforts, hoping to inspire more visitors to experience the profound beauty of Matsu in different seasons.
This charter flight cooperation between Matsu and Penghu represents a successful model of partnership between the tourism unions of outlying islands. Penghu is famous for its summer marine attractions, while Matsu distinguishes itself with its military heritage and Mindong culture. The tourism resources of both locations are highly complementary. Through direct charter flights, this partnership not only provides Penghu residents with a convenient new option for visiting Matsu but also brings fresh business opportunities to operators in Matsu.
Matsu NSA will continue to serve as solid support for local operators, working together to establish Matsu as an international-level tourist destination, allowing the military heritage of Matsu and the marine charm of Penghu to complement each other and jointly reach new heights in Taiwan's outlying island tourism.
