Following the Matsu International Art Island, which illuminated the islands through art and

injected new energy into tourism in Matsu, the archipelago welcomes another world-class

artistic highlight in the new year.  The touring offshore islands exhibition of cable sculptures by renowned sculptor Kang Mu-Xiang makes its grand finale appearance in Matsu.  The

unveiling ceremony on March 5 was jointly hosted by distinguished guests including Deputy Magistrate Chen Guan-Ren of the Lianjiang County Government, Director Chen Ru-Lan of

the Lianjiang County Transportation and Tourism Bureau, county councilors Cao Er-Zhang

and Chen Shu-Jian, Nangan Township Mayor Lin Zhi-Dong, Chairman Yang Yao-Zhi of the Lianjiang County Travel Business Association, Deputy Director Zheng Zhong-Te of UNI Air, Assistant Manager Wang Sheng-Ye of Everrich Duty Free Shop, Dongyin Township liaison

representative Lin Lian-Xun, Chairman Zhao You-Yi of Shang Lei Construction, curator

Wang Kun-Sheng, sculptor Kang Mu-Xiang, and Director Hong Zhi-Guang of the Matsu

National Scenic Area Headquarters under the Tourism Administration.  The exhibition will

run until November 23 next year. Visitors who complete the check-in task before May 20 this year can also receive a limited-edition souvenir.

Director Hong Zhi-Guang stated that Matsu is home to many tourist attractions with

international appeal. The Matsu National Scenic Area Headquarters continues to work with

the Lianjiang County Government to connect local with the global stage, enhancing Matsu’s

international visibility.  Sculptor Kang Mu-Xiang, who once served for two years in Xiyin

and Dongyin, was inspired by the tranquility and resilience of these sea-breezed islands,

planting the seed of artistic creation in his heart. After more than forty years of dedication

and refinement, he has become an internationally renowned sculptor.

Now returning to reconnect with Matsu, he chose the islands as the final stop of his offshore

touring exhibition. His steel-cable sculptures Ruyi Life and Twins, which symbolize

connection with the world, serve as blessings for both the islands and travelers.

The exhibition holds deep significance—not only bringing a new artistic landscape to Nangan and Dongyin, but also using the creative power of these works to connect Matsu with the world, allowing more people to discover the islands’ unique charm.

The Matsu National Scenic Area Headquarters further explained that sculptor Kang

Mu-Xiang embraces the concepts of rebirth and sustainability.  Using his craftsmanship, he

transforms discarded steel cables into works of art. This creative approach resonates with

Matsu’s unique wartime heritage sites, maritime culture, and local spirit.  Through these

artworks, the organizers hope to raise public awareness of marine tourism and environmental sustainability.  The two featured sculptures, Ruyi Life and Twins, are displayed at the plaza

in front of the Nangan Visitor Center and Zhongcheng Gate Plaza, respectively. Nearby

attractions include the Guanmao Mountain Scenic Area and Andong Tunnel, both popular

destinations for visitors.  Everyone is warmly invited to experience firsthand the powerful

interaction between the artworks and Matsu’s natural landscape. From now until May 20,

visitors who take photos with both sculptures (the participant must appear in the photo) and

upload them to the Matsu Ai Pa GO Facebook Page

(https://www.facebook.com/Go.go.Matsu/) with a comment can present their post at the visitor centers in Nangan or Dongyin to receive a limited-edition souvenir.

The Matsu National Scenic Area Headquarters also noted that Matsu features unique wartime landscapes, Eastern Min culture, as well as magnificent geological scenery and precious

ecological resources. The four townships and five islands each present their own distinctive

charm throughout the year.  During this exhibition period, the event also coincides with the

Island Clean Walk – Matsu Slow Hiking Journey passport stamp activity. Visitors are warmly

encouraged to participate—exploring the four townships and five islands of Matsu on foot,

discovering its world-class natural wonders with their own eyes, and experiencing the

islands’ unique blend of nature and culture through a leisurely walking journey.

Participants who complete the tasks can also redeem special gifts. For detailed information
