The “Love in Matsu, Romance on the Islands” joint wedding ceremony will be held on May 20, a date symbolizing “I love you,” at the Dabeihai Recreation Area in Nangan. The event is organized by the Lienchiang County Government, with co-organization by the Matsu National Scenic Area Headquarters (hereinafter referred to as “the Headquarters”) under the Tourism Administration, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, and the Matsu Defense Command of the ROC Army. By combining Matsu’s unique military heritage with its island scenery, the event aims to create a one-of-a-kind island wedding experience in Taiwan, inviting couples from across the country to participate in a truly meaningful celebration of love.
Matsu is not only a frontline outpost in geographic terms, but also an island rich in historical depth and natural romance. The Dabeihai Recreation Area in Nangan features expansive ocean views and striking geological landscapes, where blue skies and azure seas form a distinctive outdoor wedding setting. Located near iconic military heritage sites such as Beihai Tunnel and Dahan Stronghold, the venue enriches the romantic atmosphere with profound cultural significance.
Following the success of last year’s (2025) inaugural event, the second edition of the joint wedding once again incorporates the highly anticipated military “Sword Arch Ceremony.” Sixteen soldiers will form eight ceremonial arches using sabers, dressed in military uniforms, creating a symbolic gateway of honor and protection for the couples. As newlyweds walk hand in hand through the sword arches, the act represents not only their vows and mutual support, but also their commitment to face life’s journey together through both joy and hardship. This unique fusion of military tradition and wedding ritual is found only in Matsu, showcasing its distinctive romantic character.
In addition, May coincides with the peak season for viewing the famous Blue Tears phenomenon in Matsu. At night, the sea glows with a magical blue shimmer, offering newlyweds and their guests an unforgettable romantic experience. From the daytime wedding ceremony to evening Blue Tears tours, the event forms a complete themed travel experience, highlighting Matsu as a “romantic island” destination. Director Hong Zhiguang of the Headquarters noted that a seaside wedding is not merely a ceremony, but an immersive experience that blends natural scenery with cultural ambiance. The “Love in Matsu” event integrates island tourism with the ecological wonder of the Blue Tears, showcasing Matsu’s unique tourism appeal. Couples nationwide are warmly invited to seize this opportunity to begin one of life’s most important journeys in Matsu, while also encouraging friends and family to join and experience the island’s boundless charm.
Registration for the joint wedding is now open until April 15, 2026. Couples who have completed or plan to complete their marriage registration on or before the event date are eligible to apply. Participation is not limited to residents of Lienchiang County. With limited slots available, couples from across Taiwan are encouraged to sign up and create unforgettable memories of their most important life moment in Matsu.
