To integrate the unique island charm of Matsu with international sustainable tourism trends, the Matsu National Scenic Area Headquarters under the Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (hereinafter referred to as Matsu Headquarters) announced today (11th) the official launch of its "Clean Travel on Islands - Slow Walking Travel in Matsu" sustainable tourism initiative. By establishing a public-private cooperation platform and inviting industry participation, the initiative aims to position Matsu as a premier walking tourism destination in Asia.
This initiative has received enthusiastic response from the tourism industry, with Lamigo International Travel Service of the renowned La New Group being the first to independently plan and organize an inaugural tour group. To demonstrate his commitment, Chairman LIOU, BAO-YOU personally led tourists on a five-day, four-night journey to Matsu today, supporting the Matsu Headquarters' sustainable vision through concrete action and working together to establish Matsu as a premier walking tourism destination.
Matsu is the only county in Taiwan without traffic lights. Its tranquil fishing villages, magnificent war heritage sites, and rich natural ecology make it an ideal setting for developing walking slow travel. The core concept of the "Clean Travel on Islands" initiative is to encourage tour operators to design itineraries centered on "slow walking, minimalism, and environmental protection," guiding tourists to explore on foot rather than by vehicle.
Director HONG further elaborated: "This demonstrates that the tourism potential of Matsu has gained market recognition. The Matsu Headquarters will continue to enhance the island's walking environment and service facilities, providing strong support for the industry. We welcome more travel partners to join the 'Clean Travel on Islands' initiative to create memorable experiences for tourists and bring positive tourism development to Matsu."
Chairman LIOU of La New Group also shared his thoughts:"Since establishing Lamigo International Travel Service in 2009, we have always centered our work on health, leisure, and quality service, striving to provide tourists with holistic experiences for body, mind, and spirit throughout their journeys. Our participation in the Matsu Headquarters' 'Clean Travel on Islands - Slow Walking Travel in Matsu' initiative not only continues our commitment to healthy tourism but also fulfills our promise of environmental stewardship. We hope that through walking slow travel, tourists will feel the rhythm of nature on the pristine islands of Matsu, experience deep cultural connections, and join us in moving toward a more sustainable and beautiful tourism future for the scenic landscapes throughout Taiwan."
The departure of Lamigo International Travel Service's inaugural tour group marks not only the opening salvo for the "Clean Travel on Islands - Slow Walking Travel in Matsu" series but also symbolizes the official launch of a virtuous cycle where the public sector provides vision and the private sector drives market momentum. The Matsu Headquarters hope this starting point will spark greater creativity and welcomes more travel industry partners to join in making the path of sustainable tourism in Matsu increasingly broad.
