Matsu National Scenic Area Headquarters hereinafter referred to as Headquarters collaborate with Taiwan RE-THINK Environmental Education Association hereinafter referred to as RE-THINK. The grand finale of the “2025 round island beach cleanup – Pick up for Taiwan” will be held in August 16, 2025. For the first time, the event will move offshore to the outlying island, taking place in Matsu Nangan visitor center and Ren’Ai beach. As the concluding event of this nationwide cleanup series, it showcases the joint effort of government and civil society organization in environmental protection-combining knowledge sharing and hands on action to rally the public in paying tribute to the sea and advancing sustainable ocean development.
This event is an all-rounded ocean environmental education which combines knowledge and practice. It will begin with the lecture “A must-take class on trash for island residents”, during which RE-THINK will use it’s Marine Debris Guidebook and interactive quiz sessions to help participants understand the origins, types and ecological hazards of marine waste, as well as practical ways to reduce waste in daily life. The program will also introduce Taiwan’s first environment education board game designed with the principles of a circular economy, encouraging players to reflect on the connection between consumption and waste, and deepening their sense of responsibility for ocean issues.
Following the course, participants will head to Ren’Ai beach for a cleanup activity, accompanied by a Marine Debris Brand Adult to collect and record waste data. These finding will serve as a valuable reference for future policy-making and corporate advocacy. RE-THINK emphasizes that this outlying island session is not merely a cleanup, it’s an environmental action that moves from knowledge awakening to responsibility in practice, bringing a wave of sustainable ocean energy to Matsu.
Director Hung-Chih-kuang of the Headquarters remarked, “Through layered environmental education and hands-on participation, we hope to plant the seed of environmental protection in every visitor’s heart, fostering respect and responsibility for the ocean”. The Headquarters warmly invites visitors, the public, local residents, and students who care about marine conservation to sign up precious coastline. Participants who join both the lecture and the cleanup will have the chance to receive RE-THINK’s limited quantities on a first-come, first-serve basis.
