Nangan Dabeihai Recreation Area Upgraded – Joyfully Welcoming the Year of the Snake

Date:114-02-07 Hits:44

In response to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, Tourism Administration's 2024 “Sustainability × Digital” policy, Matsu National Scenic Area Headquarters has focused on sustainable aging and smart digitalization.  Aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it emphasizes environmental sustainability and user needs, aiming to develop a sustainable ecological island based on its unique wartime culture, art, geological landscapes, and ecological resources.

In Nangan Dabeihai Recreation Area, the Dahan Stronghold, Beihai Tunnel, and Nangan Visitor Center are must-visit attractions for tourists.  To create a recreational environment suitable for all ages, the Matsu Administration has successively introduced enhancements from 2020 to 2023.  These include the addition of two accessible ramps, an ocean-view platform, improved parking accessibility, and the installation of AEDs and emergency lighting inside the tunnels.  Additionally, CCTV, electronic fencing, and smart multilingual navigation systems have been installed at the entrances and exits of the strongholds, enhancing the overall accessibility, safety, and integration of smart technology within the scenic area.

In 2024, to enhance the service quality of the six "A"s (Attractiveness, Amenities, Activities, Awareness, Accessibility, and Availability) across various scenic areas, plans have been made to construct a universal access pathway at the entrances and exits of the Beihai Tunnel.  This pathway will incorporate a military camouflage design that reflects the region's wartime heritage while blending seamlessly with the unique geological landscape.  Additionally, replanting efforts will be undertaken to improve water retention at the site and preserve its natural scenery.

To implement the Executive Yuan's new“Three No's”public restroom policy—no dirt, no moisture, and no odor—Nangan Visitor Center has focused on enhancing restroom service quality and availability.   A total heat exchanger has been installed in both the men's and women's restrooms to maintain a dry and fresh-air environment.  Additionally, a smart information panel has been introduced, allowing visitors to accurately monitor restroom availability in real time, improving efficiency and optimizing spatial flow.  Through aesthetic design, the restrooms feature a striking black-and-white theme, complemented by upgraded facilities.  This not only breaks traditional perceptions of public restrooms but also significantly enhances the overall user experience.

Matsu National Scenic Area Headquarters stated that the launch of the universal access pathway at Beihai Tunnel and the upgraded restrooms at the Nangan Visitor Center symbolize a more comprehensive, all-age-friendly tourism environment in the Dabeihai Recreation Area.  Moving forward, efforts will continue to enhance tourism facilities across the four townships and five islands under its jurisdiction.  As the Lunar New Year of the Snake arrives in 2025, visitors are warmly invited to experience these meaningful upgrades and enjoy an improved travel environment.
