East Longitudinal Valley National Scenic Area

:::

Traversing the integration of different areas

For a long time, this headquarters, having based itself in this area, has been setting its sights on international thinking. It seeks to create an eastern-Taiwan recreation atmosphere and life aesthetics based on “convenient traveling and convenient living”. Plans are underway to allow the East Longitudinal area to become a tourist and vacation area of international standards. The plan is to use a remote area that has abundant natural and cultural flavors, and add to it the advantage of tourism output value.

In order to meet this end, this headquarters has drawn up the following goals:

  • To expand railway and highway functions, and to develop the international airports and ocean travel routes.
  • To develop this area into a tourist spot with a variety of recreational activities based on the three dimensions of air, water and land.
  • To develop the eco-tourism activities of Taroko, Yushan – Walami – Dafen, the East Sea Coast, and the East Longitudinal Valley, and to make Green Island into an eco-vacation island.
  • To allow this area become an Aboriginal area where the research of Austronesian culture can be carried out.
  • To increase the number of international tourists every year. So far, 130,000 tourists have visited here in 2007.

The East Longitudinal Valley National Scenic Area possesses a vast, unlimited territory. According to its resource characteristics, as well as the future potential of the recreation market, and industrial and economical conditions, this headquarters, with the purpose of carrying out tourist services, will not only install excellent service stations and visitor center facilities, but will also plan the management strategy of future service stations according to the following work contents:

To create local tourism celebratory activities:
In targeting the area's unique natural and cultural resources, we have directed and managed the following activities: The Luye Lake Firefly Appreciation, the Ami Harvest Festival, airspace recreational activities, Christmas lantern festivals, longitudinal valley fine food display activities, tea arts festivals, bicycle riding, and rapeseed flower tours. We hope to promote a tourism trend related to rift valley area celebrations, and increase the tourists desire to come visit this area.

To provide East Longitudinal Valley tourist service quality:
We plan to install complete tourist information areas, sophisticated and plentiful guide pamphlets, and training for volunteer tour guide personnel. We plan to provide appropriate tourism counseling and a friendly service attitude, and install a “suggestion box” for the implementation of servicing the people.

To encourage the operation of local tourism enterprises:
The existing recreation, camping, and hot springs areas under this headquarters are mainly operated by the private sector. This allows these private organizations with an interest in this work to take full charge concerning operations. It is hoped that this will allow these areas to flourish, and that local job opportunities will be created.

To implement the development of natural environmental protection:
In order to allow the natural ecology to have sustainable development, this headquarters is promoting and managing ecological education and related training activities. It is also enjoying positive interaction with local ecological preservation groups. Public and private organizations are united in their efforts with the purpose of jointly managing the longitudinal valley ecology. In addition, in implementing construction development, most building plans are being carried out in accordance with ecological construction methods. This allows the public to permanently enjoy the natural and pure East Longitudinal Valley scenes.
