The 2025 Sun Moon Lake Fireworks and Music Festival, organized by the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Headquarters under the Tourism Administration, MOTC, kicked off in grand style on the evening of September 20 at the Ita Thau Pier Plaza. The opening fireworks concert titled Chio-Tian’s Thunder Resounds over Sun Moon Lake drew more than 19,000 visitors to the lakeside, where they enjoyed a dazzling feast of sight and sound. The event began with a breathtaking 20-second burst of fireworks, followed by a performance that blended thunderous drumming with folk elements to create an awe-inspiring atmosphere and showcase Taiwan’s unique cultural vitality. The evening concluded with a stunning 340-second fireworks finale that illuminated Sun Moon Lake with a brilliant display of colors, leaving the audience in awe.
Distinguished guests at the concert included Director Ke Jian-Sing of the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Headquarters, Deputy Director Deng Wen-Kuei of Taipower’s Daguan Power Station, Master Hsu Chen-jung of the Chio-Tian Folk Drums and Arts Troupe, Principal Tsai Feng-Chin of Ita Thau Elementary School, and several chairpersons from the Sun Moon Lake Tourism Union. They all gathered lakeside to witness this grand occasion together. The evening opened with the Chio-Tian Folk Drums and Arts Troupe, bearers of Taiwan’s cultural heritage, whose powerful drumming accompanied students from Ita Thau Elementary School in their presentation of Climbing Stork Tower. The troupe then teamed up with the rock band The Chairman for a unique cross-genre collaboration, blending majestic drumming with Taiwan-style hard rock. The performance featured eleven signature pieces, including “Hit Me,” “Mysterious Woman of the Nine Heavens,” “Life of the War Drums,” and “Gods Guard Taiwan.” The artists invited the audience to cheer and wave along, while interactive games like rolling “fortune longevity peaches” and “gold ingots of good luck” kept the atmosphere lively and energized.
Renowned for its stunning "underwater fireworks," the Sun Moon Lake Fireworks and Music Festival once again dazzled audiences this year. It set a new record by launching 16-inch underwater fireworks, the largest ever displayed in Taiwan. Sparks erupted from the lake surface as firelight danced with mist, creating a breathtaking spectacle. This historic display marked a milestone for the festival, brilliantly closing the opening night. To enrich the visitor experience, the festival also introduced a limited-time "Brilliant Sun and Moon, Together with You" postcard stamping activity and exclusive special offers from local lakeside businesses. These activities added audio-visual delight, collectible souvenirs, and exclusive discounts, creating unforgettable memories for every guest.
