Organized by the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Headquarters under the Tourism Administration, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, the 2026 Sun Moon Lake Music & Fireworks Festival will kick off at 6 p.m. on September 12 at Ita Thau Pier Plaza. The opening event, themed “Drums Resonating Across the Lake,” will combine powerful percussion performances, a water-screen light show, aerial fireworks and 24-inch waterborne fireworks to create a visual feast where lake scenery, music and fireworks intertwine on an autumn night. Visitors from across Taiwan are invited to Sun Moon Lake to experience a fireworks show unlike any other.
The evening will open with a performance by the Nantou-based Dama-Luan Cultural and Art Group, which will then join Ten Drum Art Percussion Group for “Happy Little Ants.” Ten Drum will follow with its signature thunderous rhythms, performing 12 representative works, including “Wuzhang Plains,” “Racing with Wind and Thunder,” “General Order” and “Fengyi Ponds.” Blending traditional percussion, folk culture and elements of local Indigenous culture, the performance will showcase the deep cultural roots of Taiwan's diverse traditions.
The biggest highlight of this year’s event is the debut of a “multi-dimensional lake theater,” bringing together three major elements: a water dance and water-screen show, large-scale aerial fireworks and 24-inch waterborne fireworks. By extending the performance across both the lake and the sky, the production will create a multi-layered spectacle of light and sound. In particular, the 24-inch waterborne fireworks will be launched on the surface of Sun Moon Lake and paired with water-screen projections and aerial fireworks to create a visual experience unlike previous fireworks displays, adding an entirely new dimension to this year’s festival.
Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Headquarters Director Wang Chih-yi said that the 2026 Sun Moon Lake Music & Fireworks Festival will run from September through November, continuing its three major themes of music, fireworks and sporting events, along with its signature large-scale outdoor concerts. This year’s program features a series of exciting events across different locations around Sun Moon Lake, showcasing the destination’s distinctive character by day and by night while offering visitors a rich variety of travel experiences. The three major fireworks concerts this year are “Drums Resonating Across the Lake” at Ita Thau Pier on September 12; the Taiwan Mobile Sun Moon Lake Fireworks Concert “18Light” at Shuishe Zhongxing Parking Lot on October 17; and the NTSO Taiwan Youth Orchestra Fireworks Concert at Xiangshan Visitor Center on November 14. Other highlights include the 2026 Sun Moon Lake International Swimming Carnival on September 20, the 2026 Sun Moon Lake Black Tea Culture Festival on October 17 and 18, and the 2026 Sun Moon Lake Marathon on November 1. Visitors from Taiwan and abroad are invited to make the most of the autumn travel season and come to Sun Moon Lake for an exciting blend of music, fireworks, sports and culture.
In addition to the performances, festival-exclusive fortune slips and blessing amulets will be available during the festival. Visitors who spend NT$200 or more in the Sun Moon Lake area and present their receipts can redeem a limited-edition fortune slip and blessing charm at any of the three fireworks concerts. Special offers will also be available at participating businesses around Sun Moon Lake, giving visitors a chance to take home both blessings and special deals while enjoying the fireworks and music.
