Sun Moon Lake’s annual cycling celebration, the “2026 Sun Moon Lake Come!BikeDay Cycling Festival,” will take place on Saturday, November 21, at the Xiangshan Visitor Center. The Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Headquarters, Tourism Administration, MOTC (hereinafter referred to as the “Headquarters”), noted that Sun Moon Lake has received the 2026 “Cycle City of the Tour de France” label, elevating it from a destination renowned for one of the world’s ten most beautiful cycling routes to a Tour de France-certified cycling destination. Registration for the festival is now open, inviting everyone to explore Sun Moon Lake’s mountain-and-lake scenery at their own pace this fall and discover the joy of cycling around the lake.

This year’s main festival features a diverse range of cycling experiences designed for riders of different ages and abilities:

【Classic Challenge | Round-the-Lake Boat and Bike Challenge】The challenge features a 30 km “Lake Loop” route and a 20 km “Boat and Bike” route. Participants can choose to bring their own bicycles or opt for flat-bar bikes provided by the organizer, making the event more accessible and allowing even beginners to enjoy one of Sun Moon Lake’s classic routes.

【Fun for Kids | Kids Balance Bike】Designed especially for young riders, this activity incorporates children’s favorites, such as inflatable bounce houses and battle tops, into a series of challenges. Kids can play, take on challenges, and enjoy the fun of cycling in a safe environment.

【Brand-New Experience | Color Ride!】A fresh addition to the lineup, “Color Ride!” invites cyclists to slow down and experience the landscape through color. Along the route, riders collect designated colors to complete fun challenges, creating their own personal palette inspired by Sun Moon Lake’s scenery.

To make it easier for cyclists from other parts of Taiwan to join the event, the Headquarters is offering optional shuttle services from northern, central, and southern Taiwan this year. Whether traveling with friends or taking a family trip, participants can avoid the hassle of a long journey and arrive at Sun Moon Lake ready to ride.

Ahead of the November 21 festival, a series of warm-up events will take place from August through October. These include “Guided Cycling Tours,” led by professionally certified ride leaders who will guide participants through the wider Sun Moon Lake area, and “Let’s Ride Sun Moon Lake,” where participants can rent and ride a bicycle from a designated partner shop to receive a limited-edition commemorative badge.

Wang Chih-yi, Director of the Headquarters, said that the Come!BikeDay Cycling Festival, first held in 2012, has grown into Sun Moon Lake’s signature annual cycling event and one of Taiwan’s top ten cycling festivals, attracting more than 1,000 cyclists each year. With Sun Moon Lake receiving the “Tour de France Cycle City” label this year, cyclists from around the world are invited to ride around the lake and experience this internationally recognized cycling destination for themselves.
