The management scope of the Tri-mountain National Scenic Area covers three scenic spots, namely Lion's Head Mt., Lishan and Baguashan, and the administrative area covers 5 counties and cities including Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung, Changhua and Nantou, as well as 18 townships and urban areas, with a total area of about 77,521 hectares.
Lion's Head Mt.
Spanning Hsinchu and Miaoli, Lion's Head Mountain features a diverse culture that makes it a unique and culturally rich landscape. When you come here, you can savor Hakka delicacies on Beipu Old Street, experience traditional Saisiyat culture at Xiangtian Lake, visit numerous century-old temples along the Lion's Head Mountain Historic Trail, or stroll along Emei Lake to observe the waterfront ecology. The most beautiful season at Lion's Head Mountain includes April and May, when it is blanketed in snow-white tung flowers during the day and fireflies light up the dark forest at night. This is a seasonal beauty that should not be missed.
Located in the Heping District of Taichung City, the Lishan Scenic Area spans across “Guguan” and “Lishan” recreational zones, offering awe-inspiring ecological beauty at medium to high altitudes. Here in Guguan, the most famous attraction is undoubtedly Guguan hot springs, which has been renowned throughout Taiwan since the era of Japanese domination and is definitely a great choice for relaxing your mind and body. The rich seasonal landscapes of Lishan, as well as its sweet and fresh high-altitude fruits and vegetables, are something that you shouldn't miss! The Lishan Scenic Area is also an important Atayal settlement. Visitors can experience traditional Atayal culture here, making it a place worth exploring.
Located at the border of Changhua and Nantou, Baguashan features abundant ecological resources, making it an ideal destination for ecology-discovery day trips. When visiting Baguashan, travelers can not only enjoy forest bathing on various hiking and historic trails within the renowned Baguashan Great Buddha, but also explore different unique cycling routes for a special experience, such as being surrounded by flowers or riding alongside trains. Every year, when grey-faced buzzards (Butastur indicus) migrate through Baguashan around the vernal equinox (“Chunfen”), the spectacle of their migration is truly impressive and is considered a major event every spring.
