The "Austronesian Wedding" series, jointly organized each year by the Maolin National Scenic Area Administration, Tourism Administration, MOTC and the Three Townships of Northern Pingtung (Wutai Township, Sandimen Township, and Majia Township in Pingtung County), is now in its 19th edition. This year’s main wedding ceremony will be held in Sandimen Township, Pingtung County on October 3, 2026. Registration is open from now until July 31, 2026, with places limited to 10 couples. Couples of all nationalities and ethnic backgrounds are invited to come to Sandimen Township and celebrate this beautiful and important moment together.

The 2026 Austronesian Wedding series is hosted by the Sandimen Township Office, Pingtung County and follows the traditional aristocratic wedding ceremony of the Paiwan. Couples will experience a two-day, one-night wedding program, including a couple’s night, and stay with local host families, who will accompany them through each part of the ceremony. In addition, on the day after the wedding, the Maolin National Scenic Area Headquarters will arrange a newlywed photography session combined with a short excursion, allowing couples to visit distinctive sites in Sandimen Township while taking memorable wedding photos in splendid traditional attire.

In addition to the wedding ceremony itself, the Maolin National Scenic Area Headquarters and the township offices of the Three Townships of Northern Pingtung will work with local businesses and performance groups to launch a wide range of Austronesian Wedding series events in September and October 2026. These will include a reunion gathering for couples from previous years, the Kinisenayan Starlight Concert and Market, five-senses-themed wedding tours, and special offers from participating shops, together creating a festive "Austronesian Wedding Month."

Director Ko Chien-hsing of the Maolin National Scenic Area Headquarters noted that the Austronesian Wedding not only bears witness to each couple’s radiant love, but also conveys the cultural meaning of traditional wedding customs among Indigenous Peoples. At the same time, it links the industries of tribal communities across the Three Townships of Northern Pingtung, including food, accommodation, travel, shopping, and transportation, to create a travel experience rooted in local culture. It is hoped that whether participants are couples, family members, or visitors coming during the wedding events, they will not only feel the warmth and hospitality of the communities, but also discover the unique charm of Sandimen Township.

Registration for the 2026 Austronesian Wedding is open from now until July 31, 2026, with places limited to 10 couples. Eligibility will be confirmed in the order applications are received. Couples interested in experiencing a traditional Paiwan aristocratic wedding may register on the official website of the Maolin National Scenic Area Headquarters.
