The Maolin National Scenic Area is located within the boundaries of Taoyuan District, Liuguei District, and Maolin District in Kaohsiung City, and Sandimen Township, Wutai Township, and Majia Township in Pingtung County, encompassing a total of six districts and townships. It features a variety of natural landscapes, including meanders, waterfalls, and longitudinal valleys formed by the Laonung River, Zhuokou River, and Ailiao River as they course through it. Deep within the mountainous settlements, diverse ethnic groups such as the Bunun, Rukai, Paiwan, and another Rukai tribe coexist, fostering a rich tapestry of cultural diversity. To effectively utilize the resources of this scenic area, the Maolin National Scenic Area Headquarters was established in 2001 to handle construction planning and operational management matters.
