As the hot summer months and peak season for water recreation activities approach, the Northeast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area Headquarters invites the police, firefighters, coastal patrols, health officials, district offices and other agencies to conduct annual water safety joint inspection drills before the end of June as a way of improving tourism safety, with operators having to pass the inspection to be allowed to operate. At present, the following locations have passed joint inspections: Longdong Bay Ocean Park, Longmen Camping Resort, Fulong Beach, Fulong Amusement Water Park and Suao Haipai Life Studio.
The weather is hot and Bitou Longdong Natural Rock Field on the northeast coast has attracted more and more visitors interested in diving activities. In order to avoid related injuries and accidents, the Headquarters urges visitors to not visit this location. In addition to strengthening to patrols and safety advice, the Headquarters reminds visitors to be aware of safety consideration when engaging in water recreation activities, including diving, canoeing and surfing. Particular attention should be paid to the following:
- Carefully choose a safe recreation location with lifeguards.
- Operators must be legally-registered to operate water recreation activities.
- Operators must have liability insurance in accordance with the regulations on the management of water recreational activities.
- Safety equipment must conform to existing regulations.
- Activities must be supervised by professional and qualified coaches.
- Visitors can also purchase their own comprehensive insurance for marine activities.
