As part of its efforts to promote the sustainable tourism development of five Toucheng fishing villages, the Northeast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area Headquarters, Tourism Administration (hereinafter the Northeast Headquarters) today (August 19) started with the renovation of the furthest public space in Shicheng. Through the concept of local co-creation, the issue of sea waste is made part of environmental beautification. Art teams, elementary school teachers and students, village heads, residents, and local business operators are invited to participate in the collage creation of the sea waste art wall to transform the damaged sea embankment into an online beauty check-in site and an environmental education wall. In the future, experiential courses on sea waste creation will also be included in package tour itineraries, and combined with the fixed fishing net industry in Shicheng Fishing Harbor, used to create the new five Toucheng fishing villages attraction.
Ma Huida Director of the Northeast Headquarters said that Toucheng has five coastal fishing villages, five train stations with a slower pace of life and five sea harbors. Different settlements have different life styles. Shicheng has the famous Caoling Historic Trail trailhead, which is the end point of the Caoling Historic Circular Bikeway. In the future, a new outsourced coffee shop will be opened, and with the extension of the bikeway to the south is expected to bring more visitors to the five fishing villages.
The issue of marine waste is closely related to fishing villages. It is a symbiotic issue between fishermen, fisheries and the sea. It is also an ecological environment maintenance issue that should be focused on when encouraging ocean tourists to engage in activities such as playing in the waves, snorkeling, surfing and checking in at secret realms. Sky Art Vegan Village was established in Fulong last year. It strives to promote the concept of environmentally friendly vegetarian food and love for the earth. On this occasion the Northeast Headquarters commissioned the five Toucheng fishing villages to formulate tourism development plans to transform the public space in Shicheng. The damaged sea embankment is beautified with sea waste creations. A total of 100 high-hanging driftwood fish represent the hope for a century of harmony between man and nature. It has also been recognized by local village head Shen Ronghua. In the future, this wall will not only allow tourists to take photos and check-in, it can also be used to detail local environmental education, and the local cultural experience of fixed fishing nets can further deepen the development of local characteristics.
The Northeast Headquarter will also hold the five Toucheng fishing villages [Shicheng. Sea Waste Art Fishing Village Bikeway Tour] trial event, led by the Sky Art Vegan Village team, along the coastline of the northeastern area of Fulong, riding bicycles to visit sea waste creation check-in points at various fishing villages and secret realms such as Xianglan Jiukong Pond and Glass Coast. Passing through fishing villages such as Fulong, Ma’ao, Magang, and Shicheng, where they can participate in the creation of driftwood fish paintings. Finally, the sea waste creations of visitors will be placed on the Shicheng Fishing Port sea waste art wall, thereby becoming an integral part of the large Shicheng Shimei-Hundred Fishing Harvest picture. In the future, this will be a fixed itinerary route jointly operated by Star Art Vegan Village and the fishing villages, enabling companies or private groups to make reservations to participate in sustainable and responsible tourism. As the organizer, Northeast Headquarters welcomes interested business operators and youth teams to work with the fishing villages to showcase the charm of the fishing villages, working together to boost local tourism, create a unique five fishing villages tourism brand and a friendly and beautiful tourism experience for visitors.
