The year-end showdown of the triathlon world, the “2024 Fubon Financial Holdings LAVA TRI Dapeng Bay Triathlon and Junior Triathlon,” has successfully concluded in Donggang, Pingtung. Now in its 11th year, the event drew over 2,300 triathletes due to the widespread acclaim for its exceptional organization, breathtaking scenery at Dapeng Bay, and unique feature as Taiwan’s only race utilizing the fully-closed-off National Highway No. 3 (Nanzhou–Dapengwan section).
In the spirit of giving back to the local community, the event’s triathlon expo and post-race dining collaborated with the Pingtung Tourism Circle, stimulating the local tourism economy. Aid stations, operated by local businesses and communities, cheered on athletes with enthusiasm. Additionally, 11 students from the Long-Cyuan Elementary School participated in this year’s race. With assistance in the swimming segment from members of the spirited Taipei Triathlon Rotary Club, the students completed the cycling and running segments independently, proudly achieving their first-ever triathlon finish.
The Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area Headquarters is committed to promoting reduced plastic use, low-carbon living, and environmental friendliness. This year’s medal features a low-carbon bamboo design with a practical coaster function, creating a one-of-a-kind eco-friendly bamboo coaster medal. Partnering with circular packaging companies such as PackAge+, the event offered participants optional reusable packaging. The “Green Triathlete” initiative also continued this year, allowing participants to forgo the race T-shirt, with the production costs instead donated to local environmental groups in Pingtung. Moreover, in collaboration with the title sponsor Fubon Financial Holdings’ Run For Green program, for participants who accumulated 40 kilometers in running, Fubon Financial Holdings would plant a tree on their behalf—turning every step into a step toward a greener future.
