Following the unveiling of the 12 new Bib Gourmand restaurants (a total of 34 Bib Gourmand restaurants), Michelin is pleased to reveal the new 24 Bib Gourmand street food establishments in night markets, of which 15 are appearing in the Guide for the very first time. Making a total of 58 Bib Gourmands in this year’s Guide.
The Bib Gourmand is a distinction signifying ‘good quality, good value cooking’ and is given by the Michelin inspectors to establishments for their simple yet skillful cooking. To qualify for this distinction, establishments must offer a three course meal for a fixed price not exceeding NT$1,300 (around €37).
The new Bib Gourmand street food establishments in night markets for 2019 are as follows (N – appearing for the first time in the Guide):
Nanjichang Night Market
A Nan Sesame Oil Chicken阿男麻油雞
It serves revitalising sesame oil chicken soup all year round. Come early as chicken legs often run out by 7pm.
Stinky Tofu Boss臭老闆 現蒸臭豆腐
Silky and porous, the vegan stinky tofu is steamed to order with mushrooms and basil adding extra aroma.
Sung Ching Taiwanese Burrito N松青潤餅
With 10 different fillings in a popiah roll, each bite delivers complex and layered textures and flavours.
Unnamed Clay Oven Roll N無名推車燒餅
This push cart near the end of the market always attracts a queue. Try their sweet pastry and long shaobing.
Ningxia Night Market
Fang Chia Shredded Chicken on the Rice N方家雞肉飯
The chicken rice is irresistibly aromatic while the tofu in a spiced marinade is velvety beyond imagination.
Liu Yu Zi劉芋仔
Plain taro balls boast creamy mashed taro; those with salted egg yolk and pork floss have extra flavour.
Rong's Pork Liver豬肝榮仔
Crunchy liver slices in a rich broth are never grainy. Don’t miss the pork zongzi with sweet hot sauce.
Raohe Night Market
A Kuo Lu Wei N阿國滷味
It sells a range of items braised in a spiced marinade. Try their duck wings, pork uterus and baby sweetcorn.
Beef Noodles and Beef Entrails Soup N紅燒牛肉麵牛雜湯
Look for the comic cow head on the unnamed cart. Beef offal soup and meat sauce dry noodles are both good.
Chen Tung Pork Ribs Medicinal Herbs Soup陳董藥燉排骨
The signature pork rib soup cooked with Chinese herbs is not only aromatic and flavoursome but also warms the body instantly.
Fuzhou Black Pepper Bun福州世祖胡椒餅
Freshly made crusty buns burst with pork juices and pepperiness. Expect a queue.
Shilin Night Market
Chung Chia Sheng Jian Bao N鍾家原上海生煎包
This stall sells pan-fried buns with crispy bottoms and fluffy tops. Choose between cabbage and pork fillings.
Good Friend Cold Noodles N好朋友涼麵
Noodles dressed in sesame sauce impart a hint of lemony fragrance; a perfect match for egg drop miso soup.
Hai Yu Pork Ribs海友十全排骨
For over 40 years, a secret recipe has been used to make the tasty and healthy pork rib soup with more than 15 herbs.
Linjiang Street Night Market

This busy stall boasts more than 20 types of marinated food such as dried tofu, chicken offal, kelp and duck wings.
Lo Chi Hsiao Chao駱記小炒
Tucked away but worth seeking out. The menu is small, with fried lamb, beef or clams the highlights.

Crispy, golden tofu envelops juices bursting with soy aroma. Eat them with pickles to cut through the richness.

Its chewy glutinous rice balls with juicy pork filling have been hugely popular with locals since the 1960s.

As well as minced pork and pickled cucumber in broth, try their steamed rice with ‘black gold’ pork sauce.
The MICHELIN GuideTaipei 2019 includes a total of 58 Bib Gourmand establishments and the complete selection, including the Michelin stars, will be revealed on 10 April.
