VISITOR STATISTICS FOR MAY, 2017
I. A total of 822,167 visitors arrived in the Republic of China in May, 2017, down 60,398 or -4.39% from the 882,565 in May of last year. The arrivals included 502,290 foreign visitors and 319,877 Overseas Chinese. Compared with May of last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 61,434 or 13.94%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors decreased by 121,832 or -27.58%. Daily arrivals in May averaged 27,406.

II. Main markets by residence in May, 2017:
1. Mainland China accounted for 201,867 or 24.55% of the total, down 38.31%, consisting of 2,766 foreign visitors, down 3.62%, and 199,101 Overseas Chinese, down 38.62%.
2. Japan accounted for 146,179 or 17.78% of the total, up 0.52%, consisting of 146,087 foreign visitors, up 0.53%, and 92 Overseas Chinese, down 13.21%.
3. Hong Kong and Macao, 128,522 or 15.63%, up 2.57%, consisting of 9,284 foreign visitors, down 1.45%, and 119,238 Overseas Chinese, up 2.9%.
4. U.S.A., 46,232 or 5.62%, up 4.84%, consisting of 45,899 foreign visitors, up 4.81%, and 333 Overseas Chinese, up 8.47%.
5. Southeast Asia, 169,520 or 20.62%, up 33.94%, consisting of 168,895 foreign visitors, up 34.1%, and 625 Overseas Chinese, up 1.3%.
6. Australia and New Zealand, 7,390 or 0.9%, up 1.58%, consisting of 7,373 foreign visitors, up 1.57%, and 17 Overseas Chinese, up 6.25%.
7. Europe, 24,887 or 3.03%, up 5.14%,consisting of 24,849 foreign visitors, up 5.17%, and 38 Overseas Chinese, down 9.52%.
8. Korea, 79,533 or 9.67%, up 24.06%, consisting of 79,248 foreign visitors, up 24.04%, and 285 Overseas Chinese, up 31.94%.
9. Other countries or regions accounted for 18,037 or 2.19%, down 4.39%, consisting of 17,889 foreign visitors, down 4.47%, and 148 Overseas Chinese, up 5.71%.
III. Main markets by country of nationality in May, 2017:
1. Japan accounted for 146,085 or 17.77% of the total. This was up 715 or 0.49% form the number 145,370 in the same month last year.
2. U.S.A., 47,210 or 5.74%, up 2,071 or 4.59%.
3. Southeast Asia, 167,998 or 20.43%, up 42,773 or 34.16%.
4. Australia and New Zealand, 8,930 or 1.09%, up 156 or 1.78%.
5. Europe, 31,450 or 3.83%, up 1,220 or 4.04%. (Germany accounted for 4,899, up 168 or 3.55%, and U.K. for 8,604, up 282 or 3.39%).
6. Korea, 79,569 or 9.68%, up 15,097 or 23.42%.
7. Other nationals accounted for 21,048 or 2.56%, down 598 or -2.76%.
8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 319,877 or 38.91%, (Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 119,238 or 37.28% of the total Overseas Chinese visitors, up 3,357 or 2.9%).

IV. Visitor arrivals distribution by mode of transport and port of entry, gender, age, purpose of visit and length of stay in May, 2017:
1. Mode of transport and port of entry: by air 767,267 or 93.32%, of whom 617,729 or 75.13% entered through the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 65,355 or 7.95%, through Kaohsiung Airport; By sea, 54,900 or 6.68%, arrived at Kaohsiung, Keelung, Taichung and others.
2. Gender: 394,947 or 48.04% were males and 427,220 or 51.96% were females.
3. Age groups : under 19 years, 53,035 or 6.45%; 20-39 years, 360,427 or 43.84%; 40-59 years, 278,885 or 33.92%, 60 years and over, 129,820 or 15.79%.
4. Purpose of visit : Business 64,560 or 7.85%, pleasure 581,204 or 70.69%, visit relatives 33,120 or 4.03%, atding conference, 6,020 or 0.73%, study 4,125 or 0.5%, atding exhibition 2,582 or 0.31%, medical treatment 2,469 or 0.3%, others 128,087 or 15.58%.
5. Length of stay : Visitors who stayed for 1 night accounted for 44,673 or 5.23%, 2 nights 111,488 or 13.06%, 3 nights 187,983 or 22.03%, 4 nights 126,830 or 14.86%, 5-7 nights 201,733 or 23.64%, 8-15 nights 69,231 or 8.11%, 16-30 nights 18,844 or 2.21%, 31-60 nights 10,553 or 1.24%, 61-90 nights 8,884 or 1.04% and over 90 nights 73,225 or 8.58%. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in May was 6.28 nights.




VISITOR STATISTICS FOR JANUARY- MAY, 2017
I. A total of 4,287,937 visitors arrived in the Republic of China from January through May this year, down 325,766 or -7.06% from the 4,613,703 in the same period last year. The arrivals included 2,609,069 foreign visitors and 1,678,868 Overseas Chinese. Compared with last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 389,110 or 17.53%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors decreased by 714,876 or -29.86%.

II. Main markets by residence in the five months of this year:
1. Mainland China accounted for 1,075,638 or 25.09% of the total, down 41.49%, consisting of 15,522 foreign visitors, up 1.25%, and 1,060,116 Overseas Chinese, down 41.85%.
2. Japan accounted for 748,226 or 17.45% of the total, down 0.2%, consisting of 747,617 foreign visitors, down 0.19%, and 609 Overseas Chinese, down 3.64%.
3. Hong Kong and Macao, 661,577 or 15.43%, up 8.67%, consisting of 51,312 foreign visitors up 10.74%, and 610,265 Overseas Chinese, up 8.5%.
4. U.S.A., 226,458 or 5.28%, up 10.54%, consisting of 224,864 foreign visitors, up 10.53%, and 1,594 Overseas Chinese, up 12.33%.
5. Southeast Asia, 844,570 or 19.7%, up 37.6%, consisting of 840,910 foreign visitors, up 37.79%, and 3,660 Overseas Chinese, up 3.42%.
6. Australia and New Zealand, 44,130 or 1.03%, up 9.66% consisting of 43,968 foreign visitors, up 9.63%, and 162 Overseas Chinese, up 18.25%.
7. Europe, 138,934 or 3.24%, up 12.38%, consisting of 138,730 foreign visitors, up 12.41%, and 204 Overseas Chinese, down 5.56%.
8. Korea, 457,608 or 10.67%, up 32.54%, consisting of 456,184 foreign visitors, up 32.61%, and 1,424 Overseas Chinese, up 13.2%.
9. Other countries or regions accounted for 90,796 or 2.12%, up 2.03%, consisting of 89,962 foreign visitors, up 2.25%, and 834 Overseas Chinese, down 16.93%.

1. Japan accounted for 747,866 or 17.44% of the total. This was down 2,003 or -0.27% from the number 749,869 last year.
2. U.S.A., 233,668 or 5.45%, up 21,455 or 10.11%.
3. Southeast Asia, 836,788 or 19.51%, up 228,221 or 37.5%.
4. Australia and New Zealand, 52,821 or 1.23%, up 4,734 or 9.84%.
5. Europe, 172,597 or 4.03%, up 18,325 or 11.88%. (Germany accounted for 32,118, up 4,736 or 17.3% and U.K. for 44,469, up 3,505 or 8.56%).
6. Korea, 458,253 or 10.69%, up 111,461 or 32.14%.
7. Other national accounted for 107,076 or 2.5%, up 6,917 or 6.91%.
8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 1,678,868 or 39.15%, (Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 610,265 or 36.35% of the total Overseas Chinese visitors up 47,810 or 8.5%).
