VISITOR STATISTICS FOR DECEMBER, 2011
I. A total of 648,594 visitors arrived in the Republic of China in December, 2011, up 118,000 or 22.24% from the 530,594 in December of last year. The arrivals included 383,734 foreign visitors and 264,860 Overseas Chinese. Compared with December of last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 46,563 or 13.81%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors increased by 71,437 or 36.93%. Daily arrivals in December averaged 20,922.

II. Main markets by residence in December, 2011:
1. Japan accounted for 128,772 or 19.85% of the total, up 27%, consisting of 128,620 foreign visitors, up 27.06%, and 152 Overseas Chinese, down 8.43%.
2. Hong Kong and Macao, 97,199 or 14.99%, up 16.29%, consisting of 11,944 foreign visitors, up 6.21%, and 85,255 Overseas Chinese, up 17.86%.
3. U.S.A., 40,993 or 6.32%, up 15.88%, consisting of 40,512 foreign visitors, up 16%, and 481 Overseas Chinese, up 7.13%.
4. Southeast Asia, 139,118 or 21.45%, up 18.09%, consisting of 138,416 foreign visitors, up 18.22%, and 702 Overseas Chinese, down 3.57%.
5. Australia and New Zealand, 8,526 or 1.31%, down 0.56%, consisting of 8,427 foreign visitors, down 0.26%, and 99 Overseas Chinese, down 20.8%.
6. Europe, 16,223 or 2.5%, up 14.43%,consisting of 16,171 foreign visitors, up 14.48%, and 52 Overseas Chinese.
7. Korea, 20,802 or 3.21%, up 13.27%, consisting of 20,633 foreign visitors, up 13.74%, and 169 Overseas Chinese, down 24.89%.
8. Other countries or regions accounted for 196,961 or 30.37%, up 30.16%, consisting of 19,011 foreign visitors, down 40.55%, and 177,950 Overseas Chinese, up 49.11%.

III. Main markets by country of nationality in December, 2011:
1. Japan accounted for 129,374 or 19.95% of the total. This was up 22,922 or 21.53% form the number 106,452 in the same month last year.
2. U.S.A., 43,181 or 6.66%, up 3,313 or 8.31%.
3. Southeast Asia, 139,534 or 21.51%, up 16,220 or 13.15%.
4. Australia and New Zealand, 10,690 or 1.65%, up 55 or 0.51%.
5. Europe, 23,603 or 3.64%, up 1,312 or 3.64%. (Germany accounted for 3,597, up 188 or 5.51%, and U.K. for 6,869, up 272 or 4.12%).
6. Korea, 21,206 or 3.27%, up 1,846 or 9.54%.
7. Other nationals accounted for 16,146 or 2.49%, up 895 or 5.87%.
8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 264,860 or 40.83%, (Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 85,255 or 32.18% of the total Overseas Chinese visitors, up 12,921 or 16.29%).

IV. Visitor arrivals distribution by mode of transport and port of entry, gender, age, purpose of visit and length of stay in December, 2011:
1. Mode of transport and port of entry: by air 620,030 or 95.6%, of whom 502,689 or 77.5% entered through the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 45,439 or 7.01%, through Kaohsiung Airport; By sea, 28,564 or 4.4%, arrived at Kaohsiung, Keelung, Taichung and others.
2. Gender: 333,410 or 51.41% were males and 315,184 or 48.59% were females.
3. Age groups : under 19 years, 70,373 or 10.85%; 20-39 years, 236,482 or 36.46%; 40-59 years, 247,036 or 38.09%, 60 years and over, 94,703 or 14.6%.
4. Purpose of visit : Business 73,414 or 11.32%, pleasure 438,647 or 67.63%, visit relatives 49,010 or 7.56%, attending conference, 5,731 or 0.88%, study 2,469 or 0.38%, others 56,638 or 8.73%, unstated 22,685 or 3.5%.
5. Length of stay : Visitors who stayed for 1 night accounted for 22,051 or 3.56%, 2 nights 62,228 or 10.05%, 3 nights 110,668 or 17.87%, 4 nights 72,003 or 11.63%, 5-7 nights 245,701 or 39.67%, 8-15 nights 47,885 or 7.73%, 16-30 nights 17,616 or 2.84%, 31-60 nights 8,863 or 1.43%, 61-90 nights 5,343 or 0.86% and over 90 nights 26,996 or 4.36%. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in December was 6.79 nights.




VISITOR STATISTICS FOR JANUARY-DECEMBER, 2011

I. A total of 6,087,484 visitors arrived in the Republic of China from January through December this year, up 520,207 or 9.34% from the 5,567,277 in the same period last year. The arrivals included 3,588,727 foreign visitors and 2,498,757 Overseas Chinese. Compared with last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 353,250 or 10.92%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors increased by 166,957 or 7.16%.

II. Main markets by residence in the twelve months of this year:
1. Japan accounted for 1,294,758 or 21.27% of the total, up 19.87%, consisting of 1,292,999 foreign visitors, up 19.89%, and 1,759 Overseas Chinese, up 3.84%.
2. Hong Kong and Macao, 817,944 or 13.44%, up 2.97%, consisting of 97,222 foreign visitors up 3.8%, and 720,722 Overseas Chinese, up 2.86%.
3. U.S.A., 412,617 or 6.78%, up 4.27%, consisting of 408,054 foreign visitors, up 4.24%, and 4,563 Overseas Chinese, up 6.39%.
4. Southeast Asia, 1,071,975 or 17.61%, up 17.65%, consisting of 1,062,825 foreign visitors, up 18.01%, and 9,150 Overseas Chinese, down 13.11%.
5. Australia and New Zealand, 69,503 or 1.14%, down 1.97% consisting of 68,989 foreign visitors, down 1.97%, and 514 Overseas Chinese, down 1.34%.
6. Europe, 212,148 or 3.48%, up 4.35%, consisting of 211,422 foreign visitors, up 4.46%, and 726 Overseas Chinese, down 19.96%.
7. Korea, 242,902 or 3.99%, up 11.99%, consisting of 239,740 foreign visitors, up 12.1%, and 3,162 Overseas Chinese, up 4.08%.
8. Other countries or regions accounted for 1,965,637 or 32.29%, up 3.74%, consisting of 207,476 foreign visitors, down 27.11%, and 1,758,161 Overseas Chinese, up 9.19%.

1. Japan accounted for 1,300,022 or 21.36% of the total. This was up 197,968 or 17.96% from the number 1,102,054 last year.
2. U.S.A., 432,071 or 7.1%, up 3,421 or 0.8%.
3. Southeast Asia, 1,073,223 or 17.63%, up 126,539 or 13.37%.
4. Australia and New Zealand, 85,619 or 1.41%, down 2,615 or -2.96%.
5. Europe, 280,564 or 4.61%, up 4,735 or 1.72%. (Germany accounted for 49,428, up 878 or 1.81% and U.K. for 75,021, down 3,004 or -3.85%).
6. Korea, 246,149 or 4.04%, up 22,209 or 9.92%.
7. Other national accounted for 171,079 or 2.81%, up 993 or 0.58%.
8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 2,498,757 or 41.04%, (Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 720,722 or 28.84% of the total Overseas Chinese visitors up 20,022 or 2.86%).
