VISITOR STATISTICS FOR SEPTEMBER, 2011
I. A total of 460,994 visitors arrived in the Republic of China in September, 2011, up 41,605 or 9.92% from the 419,389 in September of last year. The arrivals included 289,301 foreign visitors and 171,693 Overseas Chinese. Compared with September of last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 27,905 or 10.68%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors increased by 13,700 or 8.67%. Daily arrivals in September averaged 15,366.

II. Main markets by residence in September, 2011:
1. Japan accounted for 122,908 or 26.66% of the total, up 33.91%, consisting of 122,774 foreign visitors, up 33.94%, and 134 Overseas Chinese, up 12.61%.
2. Hong Kong and Macao, 55,708 or 12.08%, down 5.53%, consisting of 6,370 foreign visitors, down 4.64%, and 49,338 Overseas Chinese, down 5.64%.
3. U.S.A., 27,735 or 6.02%, up 1.68%, consisting of 27,478 foreign visitors, up 1.61%, and 257 Overseas Chinese, up 9.36%.
4. Southeast Asia, 79,091 or 17.16%, up 3.16%, consisting of 78,352 foreign visitors, up 3.35%, and 739 Overseas Chinese, down 13.77%.
5. Australia and New Zealand, 5,451 or 1.18%, down 11.84%, consisting of 5,413 foreign visitors, down 12.01%, and 38 Overseas Chinese, up 22.58%.
6. Europe, 15,490 or 3.36%, down 3.01%,consisting of 15,453 foreign visitors, down 2.93%, and 37 Overseas Chinese, down 27.45%.
7. Korea, 17,996 or 3.9%, up 0.24%, consisting of 17,654 foreign visitors, up 0.18%, and 342 Overseas Chinese, up 3.32%.
8. Other countries or regions accounted for 136,615 or 29.64%, up 9.66%, consisting of 15,807 foreign visitors, down 22.91%, and 120,808 Overseas Chinese, up 16.07%.

III. Main markets by country of nationality in September, 2011:
1. Japan accounted for 123,447 or 26.78% of the total. This was up 30,264 or 32.48% form the number 93,183 in the same month last year.
2. U.S.A., 29,180 or 6.33%, down 725 or -2.42%.
3. Southeast Asia, 79,300 or 17.2%, up 818 or 1.04%.
4. Australia and New Zealand, 6,554 or 1.42%, down 829 or -11.23%.
5. Europe, 20,241 or 4.39%, down 1239 or -5.77%. (Germany accounted for 3,646, down 84 or -2.25%, and U.K. for 5,121, down 1,146 or -18.29%).
6. Korea, 18,067 or 3.92%, down 191 or -1.05%.
7. Other nationals accounted for 12,512 or 2.71%, down 193 or -1.52%.
8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 171,693 or 37.25%, (Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 49,338 or 28.74% of the total Overseas Chinese visitors, down 2,949 or -5.64%).

IV. Visitor arrivals distribution by mode of transport and port of entry, gender, age, purpose of visit and length of stay in September, 2011:
1. Mode of transport and port of entry: by air 439,630 or 95.37%, of whom 346,812 or 75.23% entered through the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 32,455 or 7.04%, through Kaohsiung Airport; By sea, 21,364 or 4.63%, arrived at Kaohsiung, Keelung, Taichung and others.
2. Gender: 246,040 or 53.37% were males and 214,954 or 46.63% were females.
3. Age groups : under 19 years, 19,006 or 4.12%; 20-39 years, 211,714 or 45.93%; 40-59 years, 169,351 or 36.74%, 60 years and over, 60,923 or 13.22%.
4. Purpose of visit : Business 80,669 or 17.5%, pleasure 252,005 or 54.67%, visit relatives 35,129 or 7.62%, attending conference, 7,096 or 1.54%, study 14,299 or 3.1%, others 49,916 or 10.83%, unstated 21,880 or 4.75%.
5. Length of stay : Visitors who stayed for 1 night accounted for 21,061 or 5.05%, 2 nights 62,629 or 15.03%, 3 nights 82,476 or 19.79%, 4 nights 48,307 or 11.59%, 5-7 nights 122,577 or 29.41%, 8-15 nights 30,187 or 7.24%, 16-30 nights 12,621 or 3.03%, 31-60 nights 8,832 or 2.12%, 61-90 nights 4,802 or 1.15% and over 90 nights 23,332 or 5.6%. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in September was 6.87 nights.


VISITOR STATISTICS FOR JANUARY-SEPTEMBER, 2011

I. A total of 4,289,117 visitors arrived in the Republic of China from January through September this year, up 267,391 or 6.65% from the 4,021,726 in the same period last year. The arrivals included 2,540,368 foreign visitors and 1,748,749 Overseas Chinese. Compared with last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 237,318 or 10.3%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors increased by 30,073 or 1.75%.

II. Main markets by residence in the nine months of this year:
1. Japan accounted for 922,998 or 21.52% of the total, up 17.98%, consisting of 921,614 foreign visitors, up 18%, and 1,384 Overseas Chinese, up 6.54%.
2. Hong Kong and Macao, 593,723 or 13.84%, up 0.38%, consisting of 68,781 foreign visitors up 0.93%, and 524,942 Overseas Chinese, up 0.31%.
3. U.S.A., 298,457 or 6.96%, up 1.52%, consisting of 294,997 foreign visitors, up 1.48%, and 3,460 Overseas Chinese, up 4.94%.
4. Southeast Asia, 728,581 or 16.99%, up 16.95%, consisting of 721,417 foreign visitors, up 17.37%, and 7,164 Overseas Chinese, down 13.87%.
5. Australia and New Zealand, 48,504 or 1.13%, down 4.54% consisting of 48,175 foreign visitors, down 4.63%, and 329 Overseas Chinese, up 9.67%.
6. Europe, 153,364 or 3.58%, up 2.79%, consisting of 152,778 foreign visitors, up 2.93%, and 586 Overseas Chinese, down 24.19%.
7. Korea, 183,363 or 4.28%, up 13.26%, consisting of 180,913 foreign visitors, up 13.42%, and 2,450 Overseas Chinese, up 2.17%.
8. Other countries or regions accounted for 1,360,127 or 31.7%, down 0.65%, consisting of 151,693 foreign visitors, down 20.21%, and 1,208,434 Overseas Chinese, up 2.5%.

III. Main markets by country of nationality in the nine months of this year;
1. Japan accounted for 926,594 or 21.6% of the total. This was up 136,346 or 17.25% from the number 790,248 last year.
2. U.S.A., 312,510 or 7.29%, down 2,809 or -0.89%.
3. Southeast Asia, 729,908 or 17.02%, up 86,541 or 13.45%.
4. Australia and New Zealand, 59,746 or 1.39%, down 3,354 or -5.32%.
5. Europe, 202,389 or 4.72%, up 2,067 or 1.03%. (Germany accounted for 35,340, up 130 or 0.37% and U.K. for 54,778, down 3,013 or -5.21%).
6. Korea, 185,693 or 4.33%, up 19,601 or 11.8%.
7. Other national accounted for 123,528 or 2.88%, down 1,074 or -0.86%.
8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 1,748,749 or 40.77%, (Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 524,942 or 30.02% of the total Overseas Chinese visitors up 30,073 or 1.75%).
