VISITOR STATISTICS FOR OCTOBER, 2011
I. A total of 530,430 visitors arrived in the Republic of China in October, 2011, up 44,471 or 9.15% from the 485,959 in October of last year. The arrivals included 314,649 foreign visitors and 215,781 Overseas Chinese. Compared with October of last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 31,309 or 11.05%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors increased by 13,162 or 6.5%. Daily arrivals in October averaged 17,111.

II. Main markets by residence in October, 2011:
1. Japan accounted for 112,450 or 21.19% of the total, up 23.7%, consisting of 112,339 foreign visitors, up 23.75%, and 111 Overseas Chinese, down 9.02%.
2. Hong Kong and Macao, 61,633 or 11.61%, up 2.92%, consisting of 8,221 foreign visitors, up 14.4%, and 53,412 Overseas Chinese, up 1.35%.
3. U.S.A., 37,699 or 7.11%, up 10.66%, consisting of 37,390 foreign visitors, up 10.53%, and 309 Overseas Chinese, up 29.29%.
4. Southeast Asia, 92,807 or 17.5%, up 21.21%, consisting of 92,087 foreign visitors, up 21.65%, and 720 Overseas Chinese, down 17.15%.
5. Australia and New Zealand, 6,254 or 1.18%, up 5.32%, consisting of 6,228 foreign visitors, up 5.33%, and 26 Overseas Chinese, up 4%.
6. Europe, 21,403 or 4.04%, down 0.53%,consisting of 21,355 foreign visitors, down 0.54%, and 48 Overseas Chinese, up 6.67%.
7. Korea, 17,859 or 3.37%, up 4.42%, consisting of 17,534 foreign visitors, up 3.85%, and 325 Overseas Chinese, up 48.4%.
8. Other countries or regions accounted for 180,325 or 34%, up 0.19%, consisting of 19,495 foreign visitors, down 38.27%, and 160,830 Overseas Chinese, up 8.37%.

III. Main markets by country of nationality in October, 2011:
1. Japan accounted for 113,181 or 21.34% of the total. This was up 18,009 or 18.92% form the number 95,172 in the same month last year.
2. U.S.A., 39,401 or 7.43%, up 1,971 or 5.27%.
3. Southeast Asia, 92,419 or 17.42%, up 11,412 or 14.09%.
4. Australia and New Zealand, 7,690 or 1.45%, up 163 or 2.17%.
5. Europe, 27,863 or 5.25%, down 366 or -1.3%. (Germany accounted for 5,380, up 41 or 0.77%, and U.K. for 6,514, down 411 or -5.94%).
6. Korea, 18,063 or 3.41%, up 110 or 0.61%.
7. Other nationals accounted for 16,032 or 3.02%, up 10 or 0.06%.
8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 215,781 or 40.68%, (Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 53,412 or 24.75% of the total Overseas Chinese visitors, up 714 or 1.35%).

IV. Visitor arrivals distribution by mode of transport and port of entry, gender, age, purpose of visit and length of stay in October, 2011:
1. Mode of transport and port of entry: by air 489,887 or 92.36%, of whom 393,867 or 74.25% entered through the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 34,774 or 6.56%, through Kaohsiung Airport; By sea, 40,543 or 7.64%, arrived at Kaohsiung, Keelung, Taichung and others.
2. Gender: 283,250 or 53.4% were males and 247,180 or 46.6% were females.
3. Age groups : under 19 years, 21,418 or 4.04%; 20-39 years, 196,939 or 37.13%; 40-59 years, 208,824 or 39.37%, 60 years and over, 103,249 or 19.46%.
4. Purpose of visit : Business 88,525 or 16.69%, pleasure 318,239 or 60%, visit relatives 37,674 or 7.1%, attending conference, 8,734 or 1.65%, study 2,506 or 0.47%, others 52,300 or 9.86%, unstated 22,452 or 4.23%.
5. Length of stay : Visitors who stayed for 1 night accounted for 20,222 or 4.03%, 2 nights 68,270 or 13.61%, 3 nights 91,948 or 18.32%, 4 nights 65,908 or 13.13%, 5-7 nights 163,848 or 32.65%, 8-15 nights 40,961 or 8.16%, 16-30 nights 15,365 or 3.06%, 31-60 nights 8,618 or 1.72%, 61-90 nights 4,329 or 0.86% and over 90 nights 22,317 or 4.45%. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in October was 6.7 nights.


VISITOR STATISTICS FOR JANUARY-OCTOBER, 2011

I. A total of 4,819,547 visitors arrived in the Republic of China from January through October this year, up 311,862 or 6.92% from the 4,507,685 in the same period last year. The arrivals included 2,855,017 foreign visitors and 1,964,530 Overseas Chinese. Compared with last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 268,627 or 10.39%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors increased by 43,235 or 2.25%.

II. Main markets by residence in the ten months of this year:
1. Japan accounted for 1,035,448 or 21.48% of the total, up 18.58%, consisting of 1,033,953 foreign visitors, up 18.6%, and 1,495 Overseas Chinese, up 5.21%.
2. Hong Kong and Macao, 655,356 or 13.6%, up 0.61%, consisting of 77,002 foreign visitors up 2.21%, and 578,354 Overseas Chinese, up 0.4%.
3. U.S.A., 336,156 or 6.97%, up 2.47%, consisting of 332,387 foreign visitors, up 2.43%, and 3,769 Overseas Chinese, up 6.59%.
4. Southeast Asia, 821,388 or 17.04%, up 17.42%, consisting of 813,504 foreign visitors, up 17.84%, and 7,884 Overseas Chinese, down 14.18%.
5. Australia and New Zealand, 54,758 or 1.14%, down 3.51% consisting of 54,403 foreign visitors, down 3.59%, and 355 Overseas Chinese, up 9.23%.
6. Europe, 174,767 or 3.63%, up 2.37%, consisting of 174,133 foreign visitors, up 2.49%, and 634 Overseas Chinese, down 22.49%.
7. Korea, 201,222 or 4.18%, up 12.41%, consisting of 198,447 foreign visitors, up 12.51%, and 2,775 Overseas Chinese, up 6.04%.
8. Other countries or regions accounted for 1,540,452 or 31.96%, down 0.55%, consisting of 171,188 foreign visitors, down 22.78%, and 1,369,264 Overseas Chinese, up 3.16%.

III. Main markets by country of nationality in the ten months of this year;
1. Japan accounted for 1,039,775 or 21.57% of the total. This was up 154,355 or 17.43% from the number 885,420 last year.
2. U.S.A., 351,911 or 7.3%, down 838 or -0.24%.
3. Southeast Asia, 822,327 or 17.06%, up 97,953 or 13.52%.
4. Australia and New Zealand, 67,436 or 1.4%, down 3,191 or -4.52%.
5. Europe, 230,252 or 4.78%, up 1,701 or 0.74%. (Germany accounted for 40,720, up 171 or 0.42% and U.K. for 61,292, down 3,424 or -5.29%).
6. Korea, 203,756 or 4.23%, up 19,711 or 10.71%.
7. Other national accounted for 139,560 or 2.9%, down 1,064 or -0.76%.
8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 1,964,530 or 40.76%, (Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 578,354 or 29.44% of the total Overseas Chinese visitors up 2,312 or 0.4%).
