VISITOR STATISTICS FOR APRIL, 2011
I. A total of 550,158 visitors arrived in the Republic of China in April, 2011, up 43,758 or 8.64% from the 506,400 in April of last year. The arrivals included 281,276 foreign visitors and 268,882 Overseas Chinese. Compared with April of last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 18,391 or 0.7%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors increased by 25,367 or 10.42%. Daily arrivals in April averaged 17,747.

II. Main markets by residence in April, 2011:
1. Japan accounted for 86,743 or 15.77% of the total, up 8.98%, consisting of 86,608 foreign visitors, up 9%, and 135 Overseas Chinese, up 1.5%.
2. Hong Kong and Macao, 86,537 or 15.73%, up 21.94%, consisting of 10,180 foreign visitors, up 18.87%, and 76,357 Overseas Chinese, up 22.36%.
3. U.S.A., 34,900 or 6.34%, up 1.59%, consisting of 34,615 foreign visitors, up 1.5%, and 285 Overseas Chinese, up 12.65%.
4. Southeast Asia, 90,544 or 16.46%, up 14.63%, consisting of 89,585 foreign visitors, up 15.11%, and 959 Overseas Chinese, down 17.11%.
5. Australia and New Zealand, 6,659 or 1.21%, up 5.77%, consisting of 6,605 foreign visitors, up 5.43%, and 54 Overseas Chinese, up 74.19%.
6. Europe, 18,078 or 3.29%, down 2.15%,consisting of 18,019 foreign visitors, down 2.2%, and 59 Overseas Chinese, up 13.46%.
7. Korea, 18,656 or 3.39%, up 18.16%, consisting of 18,435 foreign visitors, up 18.67%, and 221 Overseas Chinese, down 12.99%.
8. Other countries or regions accounted for 208,041 or 37.81%, up 3.02%, consisting of 17,229 foreign visitors, down 24.12%, and 190,812 Overseas Chinese, up 6.46%.

III. Main markets by country of nationality in April, 2011:
1. Japan accounted for 87,297 or 15.87% of the total. This was up 6,854 or 8.52% form the number 80,443 in the same month last year.
2. U.S.A., 37,050 or 6.73%, up 262 or 0.71%.
3. Southeast Asia, 90,208 or 16.4%, up 9,103 or 11.22%.
4. Australia and New Zealand, 8,252 or 1.5%, up 423 or 5.4%.
5. Europe, 24,820 or 4.51%, up 318 or 1.3%. (Germany accounted for 4,218, down 47 or -1.1%, and U.K. for 7,174, down 445 or -5.84%).
6. Korea, 18,906 or 3.44%, up 2,640 or 16.23%.
7. Other nationals accounted for 14,743 or 2.68%, down 1,209 or -7.58%.
8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 268,882 or 48.87%, (Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 76,357 or 28.4% of the total Overseas Chinese visitors, up 13,955 or 22.36%).

IV. Visitor arrivals distribution by mode of transport and port of entry, gender, age, purpose of visit and length of stay in April, 2011:
1. Mode of transport and port of entry: by air 511,437 or 92.96%, of whom 410,208 or 74.56% entered through the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 38,946 or 7.08%, through Kaohsiung Airport; By sea, 38,721 or 7.04%, arrived at Kaohsiung, Keelung, Taichung and others.
2. Gender: 286,358 or 52.05% were males and 263,800 or 47.95% were females.
3. Age groups : under 19 years, 29,320 or 5.33%; 20-39 years, 188,590 or 34.28%; 40-59 years, 209,697 or 38.12%, 60 years and over, 122,551 or 22.28%.
4. Purpose of visit : Business 83,533 or 15.18%, pleasure 350,884 or 63.78%, visit relatives 40,956 or 7.44%, attending conference, 6,978 or 1.27%, study 2,444 or 0.44%, others 49,707 or 9.04%, unstated 15,656 or 2.85%.
5. Length of stay : Visitors who stayed for 1 night accounted for 18,078 or 3.45%, 2 nights 47,631 or 9.1%, 3 nights 86,166 or 16.46%, 4 nights 59,363 or 11.34%, 5-7 nights 221,605 or 42.32%, 8-15 nights 37,181 or 7.1%, 16-30 nights 15,607 or 2.98%, 31-60 nights 10,798 or 2.06%, 61-90 nights 4,306 or 0.82% and over 90 nights 22,877 or 4.37%. The average length of stay of visitors leaving in April was 7.14 nights.






VISITOR STATISTICS FOR JANUARY-APRIL, 2011

I. A total of 1,922,458 visitors arrived in the Republic of China from January through April this year, up 166,422 or 9.48% from the 1,756,036 in the same period last year. The arrivals included 1,135,592 foreign visitors and 786,866 Overseas Chinese. Compared with last year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 110,159 or 10.74%, and the number of Overseas Chinese visitors increased by 56,263 or 7.7%.

II. Main markets by residence in the four months of this year:
1. Japan accounted for 409,258 or 21.29% of the total, up 16.29%, consisting of 408,568 foreign visitors, up 16.29%, and 690 Overseas Chinese, up 16.16%.
2. Hong Kong and Macao, 253,189 or 13.17%, up 8.94%, consisting of 30,160 foreign visitors up 5.3%, and 223,029 Overseas Chinese, up 9.46%.
3. U.S.A., 130,396 or 6.78%, up 1.19%, consisting of 129,223 foreign visitors, up 1.14%, and 1,173 Overseas Chinese, up 7.22%.
4. Southeast Asia, 322,042 or 16.75%, up 19.13%, consisting of 318,460 foreign visitors, up 19.56%, and 3,582 Overseas Chinese, down 10.05%.
5. Australia and New Zealand, 24,625 or 1.28%, down 0.9% consisting of 24,438 foreign visitors, down 1.01%, and 187 Overseas Chinese, up 15.43%.
6. Europe, 71,322 or 3.71%, up 2.12%, consisting of 71,086 foreign visitors, up 2.19%, and 236 Overseas Chinese, down 14.49%.
7. Korea, 85,693 or 4.46%, up 21.49%, consisting of 84,593 foreign visitors, up 21.74%, and 1,100 Overseas Chinese, up 4.86%.
8. Other countries or regions accounted for 625,933 or 32.56%, up 3.07%, consisting of 69,064 foreign visitors, down 21.16%, and 556,869 Overseas Chinese, up 7.15%.

III. Main markets by country of nationality in the four months of this year;
1. Japan accounted for 410,341 or 21.34% of the total. This was up 54,843 or 15.43% from the number 355,498 last year.
2. U.S.A., 137,516 or 7.15%, down 1,137 or -0.82%.
3. Southeast Asia, 322,651 or 16.78%, up 41,506 or 14.76%.
4. Australia and New Zealand, 29,550 or 1.54%, down 852 or -2.8%.
5. Europe, 92,201 or 4.8%, up 1,450 or 1.6%. (Germany accounted for 16,775, down 200 or -1.18% and U.K. for 25,580, down 1,244 or -4.64%).
6. Korea, 86,945 or 4.52%, up 14,484 or 19.99%.
7. Other national accounted for 56,388 or 2.94%, down 135 or -0.24%.
8. Overseas Chinese visitors accounted for 786,866 or 40.93%, (Overseas Chinese visitors from Hong Kong and Macao accounted for 223,029 or 28.34% of the total Overseas Chinese visitors up 19,269 or 9.46%).
